Meet Daniel.
At 7:42 a.m., Daniel dropped his son at school.
He watched the students move through the gate while a teacher stood beside a large attendance register.
“Please write your name here.”
The line moved slowly.
Daniel looked at his watch. School had barely started, and they were already spending several minutes recording who had arrived.
Later that morning, he received a call from the school.
“Sir, your son was marked absent.”
Daniel was surprised.
“But I dropped him off myself.”
After checking the register again, they discovered the problem.
His name had simply been missed.
Nothing dramatic.
Nobody was careless.
It was just a manual system.

That same Saturday, Daniel attended an event.
The invitation had been sent weeks earlier.
Everything looked well organized until he reached the entrance.
A queue had formed.
“What's your name?”
The usher searched a list.
“Daniel what?”
Another usher checked another list.
“Please wait.”
Daniel stood there for several minutes while people behind him waited too.
He eventually got in.
But as he walked into the hall, he thought:
“There has to be an easier way to do this.”

A few days later, Daniel visited a friend who lived in an estate.
At the gate:
“Who are you visiting?”
“Mr. Adewale, House 24.”
The security officer opened a large visitor register.
“What is your name?”
“Daniel.”
“Phone number?”
Daniel gave it.
“Who invited you?”
Daniel called his friend.
The resident confirmed him.
The details were written down.
Daniel entered.
Again, nobody had done anything wrong.
It was simply a slow way of managing visitors.

Then Daniel went to work.
At the office, there was another register.
Every morning, employees signed in.
Someone forgot to sign.
Someone signed in for a colleague.
Someone arrived late but entered the wrong time.
At the end of the month, HR had to go through pages of records to prepare a report.
Daniel looked at the register.
School.
