The Art of Misdirection

Have you ever wondered why, when something serious happens, people suddenly cause a scene about something else?

That is what the Dead Chicken Theory is all about.

It comes from an old story about a village healer who would wave a dead chicken while chanting to cure sickness. Of course, the chicken did not heal anyone, but the drama distracted the villagers long enough for time and belief to do the rest.

In psychology, this represents misdirection. It means doing something loud, emotional, or dramatic to draw attention away from what truly matters.

Politicians do it.
Leaders do it.
Even we sometimes do it, starting arguments, stirring emotions, or making sudden moves just to shift focus when things get uncomfortable.

The Dead Chicken Theory reminds us of one thing:
👉 People often believe the most visible action, not the most effective one.

So the next time someone waves a dead chicken in front of you, a distraction, a controversy, or a sudden show, pause and look deeper.
Ask yourself, what are they trying to make me not see?
