Special Inter Class Debate Between SS 1B and SS 1D
➖➖➖➖➖

🌷- In the afternoon of Tuesday 7th May, 2024, an inter class debate was conducted on the topic "Should Extracurricular Activities be Compulsory in Schools?"

🌷- Each class was represented by a single speaker. SS 1 D proposed the motion while SS 1B opposed the motion.

HOW THE DEBATE UNFOLDED

🌷- The intense and insightful debate took place at the school premises and was an enjoying one as both the supporting and opposing sides performed admirably well.

🌷- SS 1 D argued fervently that extracurricular activities should be compulsory in all schools. The speaker emphasized that these activities play a crucial role in the holistic development of students. He highlighted how participation in extracurricular activities can enhance students' social skills, time management, teamwork and leadership abilities.

🌷- Moreover, the speaker argued that these activities can provide a welcome break from academic pressure, reducing stress and promoting overall mental well-being.

🌷- The proposer from SS 1 D also pointed out that extracurricular activities offer students the opportunity to explore their interests and passions beyond the confines of the classroom. He asserted that participating in such activities can help students discover their hidden talents and potentials.

🌷- On the opposing side, the speaker from SS 1 B presented strong arguments against making extracurricular activities compulsory in schools. He raised concerns about the potential burden it could place on students who may already be overwhelmed with academic responsibilities. He argued that forcing students to participate in extracurricular activities could lead to burnout and hinder their academic performance.

🌷- Moreover, SS 1 B contended that while extracurricular activities offer valuable benefits, they should remain optional to allow students the freedom to prioritize their academic pursuits according to their individual needs and preferences.

🌺- RESULTS :

🌷- No definitive resolution was reached as both the debaters obtained equal points [44 out of 50] after the average points were computed from 3 judges and consequently a second round was scheduled to take place next Wednesday to determine the winner.

GRATITUDE

🌷- The SSSL Press Club is indebted to all the teaching staff who helped in whatever way possible to ensure that the program has taken place.

🌷- Thanks to the school management and the STEB Headquarter for their wonderful efforts in making SSS Lautai lively.

🌷- Science Secondary School Lautai witnessed an engaging debate competition between two classes who emerged as the winners of last term's inter class debate, SS 1A and SS 1B. The topic of the debate is "Social Media is a Reliable Source of Information.".

🌷- The event took place on Wednesday 31st January, 2024, in which students from both classes passionately presented their arguments in support and opposition of the motion.

🌷- The debate commenced with the SS 1A class proposing the motion and providing their reasoning behind social media being a reliable source of information. They highlighted that social media platforms have become the go-to medium for disseminating real-time news, connecting individuals globally, and facilitating the sharing of vital information.

🌷- However, SS 1B strongly opposed the motion, arguing that relying on social media for accurate information is often a risky endeavor. They emphasized that social media platforms are vulnerable to spreading misinformation, fake news, and biased content.

🌷- After a fascinating exchange of ideas and rebuttals, the judges declared SS 1B as the Winners of the debate who convincingly argued against social media's reliability by highlighting the risks of misinformation, unverified sources, and dissemination of biased content.

🌷- Prizes were presented to both the winners and the runners-up by the Director SSSL, Mal. Jibo Usman in the assembly ground on Friday 2nd February, 2024.

🌷- Credits to the Press Club Coordinators; Mal. Nazifi Adamu and Mal. Shamsu Idris Sa'ad for organizing the program and all teaching staff in attendance for their commitment and contributions.
