Summary of the Proposed Dual-Mandate Implementation Process for Colleges of Education in Nigeria beginning from the 2026/2027 Academic Session.
1. Termination of Degree Affiliations with Universities
Under the Dual-Mandate arrangement, Colleges of Education granted degree-awarding status will no longer operate degree programmes through affiliation with universities. Such Colleges will independently award both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Bachelor's Degrees subject to accreditation and approval by relevant regulatory agencies.
2. Direct Admission of NCE Holders into Degree Programmes
All holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), including those who graduated many years ago and those with lower grades, will be eligible for admission into the College's degree programmes. Qualified NCE holders will be admitted directly into 300 Level from the 2026/2027 Academic Session, subject to meeting prescribed admission requirements.
This provision is intended to provide a seamless academic progression pathway for NCE graduates and encourage more teachers to upgrade their qualifications.
3. Integration with Existing Degree Students
Candidates admitted into the new Dual-Mandate degree programmes will join students already enrolled in the degree programmes of the Colleges. Such students will commence their studies at the appropriate level, particularly at 300 Level where applicable.
4. O'Level Result Verification Procedure
To strengthen the credibility of admissions, all candidates are required to verify their O'Level results directly through the portals of the relevant examination bodies.
The verification process includes:
Payment of ₦1,000 for verification of one result.
Payment of ₦2,500 for verification of two results.
Generation of a verification code after successful payment.
Submission of the verification code during the admission registration process and JAMB application.
