Minister of Labor, Chris Ngige, says according to the laws of the land, anyone participating in an illegal strike is liable to a N100k fine or six months jail term. He said this while speaking with newsmen at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja yesterday May 18th. He said:


"If you embark on a strike that is illegal, if you don't give 15 days notice especially if you are a member of essential service, you will be liable to a fine of N100, 000 or six months in jail. If we invoke it now they will say this is a ruthless government but they(labor) are going outside the law.

THE Trade Union Congress (TUC) yesterday gave the Federal Government up till Wednes­day, May 18, 2016 to invite the leadership of labour for discussion aimed at determining the appropriate way forward in the on-going crisis surrounding the fuel pump price in­crease.


This is even as the labour centre insisted that the government should revert to the old price regime with immediate effect. In a com­muniqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting of the Congress highest organ, the National Executive Council (NEC) and joint­ly signed by the President, Bobboi Bala Kai­gama and Acting Secretary General, Simeso Amachree, TUC said it rejected in its entirety the astronomical increase in the price of pet­rol from N86.50 per litre to N145 per litre.

The 19 northern governors came under criticism yesterday over their position that the Fulani should not be labelled as criminals. The Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, asked the governors to bury their heads in shame over their position which came in the wake of the heat generated by the attack on Ukpabi-Ninbo community in Enugu State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, last Monday. Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) also condemned the governors.
