UPDATE ON SIMON EKPA’S APPEAL IN FINLAND — 21 AUGUST 2026
The appeal proceedings concerning Simon Ekpa’s six-year prison sentence in Finland have continued this week at the Court of Appeal in Eastern Finland.
Reports indicate that the defence proceedings have been ongoing, with Ekpa himself participating in the appeal process. A recent report stated that he was expected to personally present his defence on Friday, 21 August 2026.
As of today, 21 August 2026, I have not found a credible official report confirming that the Finnish Court has delivered a final judgment overturning, reducing, or upholding Ekpa’s six-year sentence. Therefore, claims circulating on social media that he has already won the appeal or that his sentence has been cancelled should be treated with caution.
Ekpa was originally sentenced on 1 September 2025 by the Päijät-Häme District Court to six years in prison after being convicted of terrorism-related offences, aggravated tax fraud and other offences. The original judgment was appealable.
Current situation: The appeal process is ongoing, and the final outcome remains pending. Until the Court of Appeal formally announces its decision, it is inaccurate to declare that Simon Ekpa has been acquitted or that his six-year sentence has been cancelled.
