Samuel Ajayi Crowther, was a Yoruba linguist, clergyman, and the first African Anglican bishop of West Africa.
He received a doctoral degree from Oxford University.
He also founded the first primary school in Northern Nigeria The school was founded in the year 1865 and is situated in the Kogi State capital, Lokoja.
