Gov. Okpebholo hails Provost for rejuvenating Igueben College of Education
Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has hailed the Provost, Edo state College of Education Igueben, Dr Victoria Okojie for rejuvenating the Institution within the shortest period of her appointment.
Okpebholo made the commendation while addressing the school management who were on a courtesy visit to Edo Government House on Wednesday in Benin.
According to him, first of all let me thank you for your efforts in growing the school from within your five months of appointment.
"At a time I think that school was completely a write off, but with your efforts, a lot of things have been achieved within the shortest time possible.
"But before we appointed you we know your capability, we know who you are and your professionalism, I have no doubt that you were going to succeed.
"I think some of the requests you made are achievable, I also look at visiting the school to see things for myself and know how we can come in", he said.
Earlier, the Edo state College of Education Provost, Okojie, commended the governor for increasing the school monthly subvention from N19 million to N100 million.
Okojie explained that they have focused attention on strengthening internal quality assurance system, promoting staff and students welfare since assuming office.
She, however, appealed to the governor to support the school with students shuttle buses to aid their movement for lectures and other purposes.
The provost highlighted key areas were they needed the state government support to be; campus security, provision of additional students accomodations, staff quarters and improvement of internal road network among others.

🇳🇬 Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe – First President of Nigeria
Biography
Full Name: Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe
Born: November 16, 1904, Zungeru, Northern Nigeria
Died: May 11, 1996
Education: Attended Howard University and Lincoln University (USA); also studied at the University of Pennsylvania.
Profession: Journalist, politician, teacher, and statesman
Political Career & Achievements
Known as the "Zik of Africa", Azikiwe was a passionate Pan-Africanist.
Founded the West African Pilot newspaper in 1937, which advocated for Nigerian nationalism and self-governance.
Played a major role in the formation of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC).
Became the first Nigerian Governor-General (1960–1963) and then first President of Nigeria (1963–1966) when Nigeria became a republic.
As president, he served largely in a ceremonial role under the parliamentary system.
Ghana
🇬🇭 Dr. Kwame Nkrumah – First President of Ghana
Biography
Full Name: Francis Kwame Nkrumah
Born: September 21, 1909, Nkroful, Gold Coast (now Ghana)
Died: April 27, 1972, Bucharest, Romania
Education: Studied at Lincoln University and the University of Pennsylvania; also trained at the London School of Economics and University College London.
Profession: Teacher, political activist, and Pan-African leader
Political Career & Achievements
Founder of the Convention People's Party (CPP).
Led the Gold Coast to independence from British rule in 1957, making Ghana the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence.
Became Prime Minister (1957–1960) and then President (1960–1966) when Ghana became a republic.
Advocated strongly for Pan-Africanism, helping to establish the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.
Implemented socialist policies and industrialization, but his presidency later faced economic struggles and allegations of authoritarianism.
Later Life
Overthrown in a 1966 military coup while on a trip to North Vietnam and China.
Lived in exile in Guinea and was named Honorary Co-President of Guinea by President Sékou Touré.
Died in exile in Romania in 1972.
