Àìrìn jìnà, láìrí àbùkè ọkéré;
Bí a bá rìn jìnà,
a ó rí ejò tó yá aro.

Yoruba Proverb of the Day
"Igi a ba fi eyin ti, ẹ̀gún ló jẹ;
Ẹni tá ni kò fẹ́ ni lójú,
Atà ló fi sí ẹnu."

English Interpretation:
The tree that we are supposed to lean on for support is full of thorns.
The person we ask to help blow air into our eyes (to ease our pain) puts pepper in their mouth instead.

This proverb teaches us patience and tolerance. Barking is the nature of a dog, headbutting is the nature of a ram, and misbehaving is common for a goat. In the same way, human beings have their natural behaviors and small weaknesses. We should not condemn or destroy someone because of their little faults. Instead, wisdom calls for patience, forbearance, and understanding, because these are what make relationships and life easier.

Owe Yoruba:
“Oosa ni iwa, bàbá ṣe mọ́wọ́ sí, ló ṣe ngbéni.”
👉🏽 Meaning: Character is the true deity; when one upholds good character, it supports and uplifts them.

This proverb is a warning against people who love to show off or draw unnecessary attention to themselves.

Some valuable things are done quietly (like cooking yam in a pot), without noise, yet they produce good results.

Others make noise and cause disturbance (like pounding yam), and though they may be noticed, the attention is not always honorable.

It teaches us that true worth does not need to be loud. Quiet achievement speaks for itself, while unnecessary noise may only expose foolishness or troublemaking.

“Ẹni bí ẹni, l’ọmọde ń kà owó,
Ẹ̀jì bí ẹ̀jì, l’agbàlagbà ń ta ayò.”

👉🏽 Meaning: No matter how smart a child thinks they are, wisdom of the elders goes deeper. A child may count money, but only elders master life’s real game.

This is a proverb mocking fruitless effort. It means that no matter how long someone spends on a useless activity, it will never bring meaningful results.
In simple terms: Stop wasting energy on what won’t profit you.
