I was just settling into my daily schedule on Thursday afternoon when I had a call from the President, Mr. Aniekan Willie, that he was in Abuja. That instantly altered my plans.

An hour or so later, we were at the National Assembly to meet with a Grand Old Student and a member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Ime Okon.

We were warmly received by the Distinguished Alumnus who renewed his commitments to this association and our alma mater and committed himself afresh to our vision, especially regarding the ongoing rebuilding of the Assembly Hall.

The President had briefed him about our activities, including the coming double-barrelled Reunion and Awards events.

It was a beautiful outing which we believe would yield appreciable dividends soon.

LAWMAKER IDENTIFIES DISCIPLINE AS GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL AFAHA EKET'S GREATEST ASSET

The member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr. Aniefiok Attah, has identified discipline and hardwork as the greatest assets that made Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket, the envy of other post primary institutions in Eket and present day Akwa Ibom State.

Attah stated this, Monday, when he received in audience the President and other Exco members of Government Secondary School Alumni Association in his office in Uyo.

Attah, who was elated receiving the GSS Alumni delegation, took his guests down memory lane when he recounted fun memories of occurrences in his days in the institution.
He emphasized that discipline and hardwork that were inculcated in the students were some of the factors that made GSS Afaha Eket the most sought after School in Akwa Ibom State at that time.

He appreciated the Alumni President, Aniekan Willie, and the Alumni leadership for their efforts in taking the bull by the horns by making sure all Alumnus of the School come together to achieve a common purpose for the Institution.

Attah, who spoke extensively, promised to support initiatives that will aide the development of his alma mater.

Earlier, in his address, the President of the Alumni Association, Aniekan Willie, told the lawmaker that the essence of the visit was to intimate him of the progress the Association has been made so far. He informed the Assemblyman of the numerous interventions that the Alumni has done in the School and encouraged him to throw his weight of support behind the institution as the Alumni gears towards restoring the lost glory of the Institution.

Willie, speaking further, informed that scholarships and capital projects as well as appreciation of Staffers and students have been some of the support the Alumni have been extending to the Institution.

Members of the Alumni who accompanied the Alumni President on the Visit include Mr. Sam Akpe the Secretary General, Mr. Anniekan Etuk, the Financial Secretary, Helen Udofa, Publicity Secretary and a 1999 graduate of the School, Nsibiet John.

WE WILL RESUME ALL SUSPENDED PROJECTS IN GSS AFAHA EKET
....Alumni tells SSEB Chairman
.....solicits more Teachers in School

Government Secondary School Afaha Eket Alumni Association says she will resume all suspended projects in the School immediately.

The President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Aniekan Willie, stated this when he led Exco members of the body to a visit on the Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board, Hon. Ekaette Ebong Okon, in Uyo, Monday.

Addressing the SSEB Boss, the Alumni President expressed appreciation to the Chairperson for what he described as the mature and effective manner in which she has treated matters concerning

Aniekan Willie, while addressing the Chairman further stated that the Alumni Association will resume all projects the body suspended due to the frosty relationship that existed between the body and the former Principal, Mr. Eyo Aweh, hinted also that the Alumni Association has already established a working relationship with the new Principal Mr. Emediong Nyong and expressed optimism that the relationship will yield excellent benefits/services to the School.

In her response, the Chairperson of SSEB, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ekaette Ebong Okon appreciated the Alumni for their efforts in partnering Government towards effective services in the School.
