THE SIX Es OF CHARACTER EDUCATION SCHOOLS & HOMES SHOULD KNOW

The emphasis on CHARACTER EDUCATION cannot be over stressed, especially not with the increasing cases of character deficits apparent across all segments of society today.

Schools should embrace their role as a partner with parents in character education. By this, we do not just mean trying to get kids to have the right attitude about drugs, violence or gender issues or whatever the hot topic of the day is.

There is a crucial role for engaging children and young people in discussion of such complicated ethical dilemmas, but true character education is about acquiring virtuous habits. It's about knowing what persistence is and then being able to stay the course, or about having a rich understanding of what kindness is and then being able to apply it.

What does that look like in the classroom, or even in the homes and family settings? We can answer that question in terms of what we call "the six Es of character education."

4. Emotion
5. Experience
6. Expectations

These are critical points which speak to how our young people are guided as they grow through their childhood and youth.

We'll be sharing our ideas on each of these points through the month of October.

WHY WE NEED TO TEACH KIDS ABOUT RESPECT

Undoubtedly, one of the most important virtues we can teach kids both in schools and at home is respect. Being respectful of other people; their culture, religion, their values and beliefs can ensure that children develop positive relationships with their family, friends, and those in their communities as they become adults.

The important thing is to help kids understand that they need to treat others the way they want to be treated.

EDUKIDS CHARACTER EDUCATION

Edukids Character Education is the wider personal development of a child beyond the academic education they receive in school. It aims to instil in both primary school pupils and college students a number of key characteristics and values such as resilience, honesty, motivation and humility, all of which will help them in their adult lives.

Character education is about important life skills children need to learn for their spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. At the core of character education is the development of twelve essential human attributes which form the basis for all other positive character traits. These the twelve core character traits are the central focus of our child character education activities for both primary school pupils and college students.

OUR PRINCIPLES

3. Learning through Role Playing

As part of our club activities, children play out the various situations they run into throughout the day, and then have discussions about what took place. By playing out these situations in other people’s lives in an objective manner, the child learns that there is room for each person’s opinion, and that it is necessary to treat everyone with tolerance, in addition to learning the lessons from everyday life.

Here are the guiding principles of our club programmes, again, they are fundamental principles of Transformational and Integral education for character and personality development.
Education Through The Environment

Research and our life experience shows that the environment includes everything we are exposed to on a daily basis - family, friends, school, TV, advertisements, Internet, computer games, social networks, newspapers, recreation areas, books and anything we come into contact with. It is not possible to control all these elements directly, but it is possible to provide our children with the ability to distinguish and discriminate between good and bad, and to prefer an environment that transmits positive messages.

Youngsters are always happy to consciously choose values of bonding and cooperation. In Edukids club, we help ochildren distil from the environment, only the positive and helping values and lessons. We have the means to help them consciously build their better future, and work toward creating an improved society where everyone is like one big global family.
