YOBE STATE GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES TECHNICAL COMMITTEE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF POST-BASIC NEPHROLOGY NURSING PROGRAMME AT SHEHU SULE COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCES DAMATURU
A significant milestone in the advancement of specialized healthcare in yobe state was achieved today with the formal inauguration of the Technical Committee for the establishment of a Post-Basic Nephrology Nursing Programme at the College.
The historic event, convened at the EOC Conference Room, marks a decisive step towards addressing the critical need for highly skilled nephrology nurses, who are essential in the fight against kidney disease and in providing life-saving renal care.
The inauguration was presided over by the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services Prof. Moh'd Lawan Gana.
In attendance were the Director of Nursing Services, the Provost of the College, Heads of Renal Units from YSUTH and YSSH. Senior Academics from the College and other Key Officials from the Ministry of Health.
In her remark the Provost of the College, who highlighted the institution's readiness and enthusiasm to pioneer this specialized programme through collaborative efforts, further stated the the purpose of the program based on the nursing education reform agenda. She emphasized the college's commitment to continue increasing the HRH within the available resources across the health Sector. Assured curriculum excellence and production of competent professionals who will meet the highest standards of nephrology care.
In a keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Health officially inaugurated the Technical Committee. He charged the members with the critical task of developing a robust, practical, and accredited curriculum that aligns with global best practices. "The establishment of this programme is not just an academic pursuit; it is a direct response to a public health need. Your work will translate into hope, care, and prolonged life for countless citizens battling renal challenges," the Commissioner stated. He added that the quality of the product to render an effective services is key with the hope to sustained the initiative.
The newly inaugurated Technical Committee is to be chaired by Nr Idriss Usman and other members from MOH, College of Nursing Sciences, YSUTH and YSSH DTR.
The event closed with a vote of thanks and a collective resolve to move forward with speed and diligence. The formation of this committee sets in motion a process that will culminate in the training of expert nurses, equipped to manage dialysis, renal transplantation, patient education, and holistic nephrological care.
This initiative stands as a testament to the proactive collaboration between the government, healthcare regulators, and educational institutions in building a resilient and specialized healthcare workforce force
