🌍 YOMSA Sickle Cell Disease Outreach 2026

In commemoration of World Sickle Cell Day 2026, YOMSA successfully conducted a two-day outreach program under the theme:

“Closing the Survival Gap: Equity in Sickle Cell Disease.”

The outreach commenced with a Blood Donation Drive at the Jumu'at Mosque, NITEL, Damaturu, where generous donors contributed towards saving lives through voluntary blood donation.

The second day featured a Free Sickle Cell Screening and Community Health Outreach at Nayi Nawa Primary Health Care Centre, Damaturu. Community members benefited from:
✅ Free sickle cell screening
✅ Health education and counseling on genotype and sickle cell disease prevention
✅ Public awareness campaigns on sickle cell disease
✅ Distribution of medications to individuals living with sickle cell disease
✅ Distribution of sanitary pads, detergents, soaps, and other support materials

We sincerely appreciate all volunteers, healthcare workers, partners, donors, and community members who contributed to the success of this outreach. Together, we continue to promote awareness, encourage preventive practices, and support individuals living with sickle cell disease.

Dr. Abubakar graduated with distinctions in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Clinical Pharmacology, etching his name in history.

He excelled as the best graduating student in both Pre-Clinical and Basic Clinical, receiving awards for Best Graduating Student in Pre-Clinical, Best Graduating Student in Basic Clinical, and Best Student in Paediatrics, making him the Overall Best Graduating Student of 2025.
