NIGER COMMISSIONER OF BASIC EDUCATION THUMPS UP CONDUCT OF APTITUDE TEST FOR FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP
Niger State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Hadiza Asabe Mohammed has expressed satisfaction with the aptitude test conducted for the selection of the qualified Students to be sponsored for the Oversea Scholarships.
This is inline with the New Niger Agenda of His Excellency the Executive Governor of the State, Farmer Umaru Mohammad Bago aimed at sponsoring 1000 indigene for an overseas Scholarship for Students from the Public Schools in 25 local government areas of the who have requisite qualifications and have passed the aptitude test.
The Commissioner while monitoring of the on going aptitude test in Chanchaga, Bosso and Paikoro Centers expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of participants
She said the overseas Scholarship are majorly for the undergraduate Students and few slots would be allocated to post graduate Programmes in some selected Science, Technology and Agricultural courses as specified in the forms circulated to all the 25 LGA’s.
The Commissioner noted that the Overseas Scholarship forms and the processes are free, warning that anyone found sabotaging the efforts of the State government will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
According to the Commissioner, the aptitude test is taking place simultaneously in all the 25 LGA’s in the and in order to ensure that the process is transparent all the Commissioners, Local Government Council Chairmen are part of the process and have been sent to monitor the conduct in various local government centers.
Earlier, Director General Schools and Education Reforms Hajiya Maimuna Muhammad, said the scholarship is aimed at empowering the Students from less privilege home and communities in order to give them the opportunities and access to quality education, hoping that those in position of authorities will not abuse the good gestures.
The process of the aptitude tests across the 25 LGA’s in the state was hitch free, this is evident from the Chanchaga, Bosso, And Paikoro centers visited.

NIGER STATE COMMISSIONER OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION WARNS AGAINST UNAUTHORIZED STUDY LEAVE
Niger State Commissioner Of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammad has issued a stern warning against unauthorized leave from schools for study purposes by Teachers
The Commissioner stated this yesterday during an interactive meeting held with school managers, principals, Head Teachers, Zonal Quality Assurance Directors of Zone A in Bida Local Government.
The meeting, which was aimed at addressing pressing educational concerns, highlighted the importance of maintaining professional conduct among educators.
She emphasized that teachers must seek proper permission before pursuing any study-related leave while underscoring the potential negative impact on student in terms of teaching, learning and other schools' operations.
She added that unauthorized absences without proper planning disrupt the educational process and can hinder student progress, as such it can’t be tolerated anymore.
Dr. Hadiza Asabe Muhammad also addressed the recent announcement by the Executive Governor, Farmer Muhammad Umaru Bago regarding the stoppage of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levies in all public schools.
She reiterated that this directive remains in effect until further notice from the Governor, urging school leaders to comply with the new policy to ensure a unified approach to funding and resource allocation to the education sector.
She expressed her commitment to working closely with school Managers and others to address challenges and promote a positive educational atmosphere for the common children in the State.
In her welcome Address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Aishatu Nuhu Yerwa maintained that the State Government, under the leadership of the Farmer Muhammad Umaru Bago is aiming at enhancing the overall quality of education in the State.
Also in her Address, the Director General Schools and Educational Reforms, Hajiya Maimuna Muhammad, spoke at length on how the Ministry has achieved the enhanced Boarding Schools Feeding and the need for all Schools to revive the Schools Farm which are part of the reforms in the Education Sector.
In their various submissions, the Deputy State Coordinator, Niger State Adolescent Girls Initiative For Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Malam Salisu Danjuma, the Director Planing Research and Statistics of the Ministry, Abdulmalik Nungbe,the Director Test Measurement and Evaluation, Abdullahi Garba Asab and the Director Schools and Educational Services of the Ministry, Malam Hassan Muhammad as well as representative of the Executive Chairman NSUBEB, Malam Abdulmumin Baba Fada, highlighted issues of their respective departments, all geared towards improving the quality of education in State.

NIGER STATE COMMISSIONER OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION WARNS AGAINST CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
Niger State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, has warned teachers of Public Primary and Secondary Schools in the State to desists from administering corporal punishment on pupils and Students under their care.
The Commissioner disclosed this yesterday at a one Day Capacity Building Workshop of Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRM) and Gender Based Violence Desk Officers In Public Schools, organized by the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education Held at the NUT House in Minna.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Director General Schools and Education Reforms Hajiya Maimuna Muhammad, appealed to parents in the state to support girl child education to enable them harness their potential and Contribute to nation building.
She maintained that teachers welfare remain paramount under the leadership of Farmer Muhammad Umar Bago,and therefore called on the participants to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the workshop.
In her remarks, the State Coordinator Adolescent Girls Initiatives For Learning And Empowerment AGILE, Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir,
represented by the Deputy Coordinator, Mal. Salisu Danjuma, said the capacity building Workshop is designed to equip the desk officers with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively manage and respond to grievance and cases of gender based in their respective Schools.
He noted that the role of the Desk Officers in the Schools is crucial in ensuring that schools are safe, Inclusive, healthy environment for all students especially those who are vulnerable to gender base violence .
According to him, AGILE is committed in creating a brighter future for all students of public schools in the state.
In his goodwill message, the State NUT Chairman, Comrade Akayago Adamu Muhammad, noted that it has been long Schools in Niger State have not experienced this kind of gesture, but with the coming of the current administration the standard of Schools will soon improve.
The participants are drowned from Chanchanga, Bosso, Paikoro, Shiroro,Munya, Rafi, And Wushishi among others.

NIGER STATE MINISTRY OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION CELEBRATES 2024 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, SEEKS INCLUSIVITY .
As part of the activities marking the 2024 International Day of the Persons with Disabilities, Niger State ministry for Basic And secondary Education, in collaboration with Niger State Universal Basic Education Board and Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) have assured of inclusivity to meet their special needs
The event with the theme" Amplifying The leadership Of Persons With The Disabilities For An Inclusive and Sustainable Future "
took place at the Niger State Schools for special education Gbaiko ,Minna.
Speaking at the event, the Niger State Commissioner for Basic And Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, noted that persons with disabilities have faced significant barriers such as access to education, employment, healthcare, and meaningful participation in Thier community.
Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed maintained that the ministry is committed to ensuring that the policy of the ministry reflects the need and aspirations of persons with disabilities by listening to their plights , understand their experiences, and incorporate their peculiar needs into decision making processes.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman, Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB, Mal. Muhammad Baba Ibrahim, said it is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure that all children with special needs are supported to thrive in their academic pursuit.
Similarly The State Cordinator Adolescent Girls Initiative For Learning And Empowerment, Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir, said AGILE will ensure more enrollment of children with special needs into the school, to enable them have access to quality education.
Represented by the deputy cordinator Agile, Mal Salisu Danjuma , she disclosed that AGILE will also provide ICT in the school, renovate classes , and also provide learning materials for the school in no distance time.
The high point of the event was the songs and drama presentation as the sporting activities by the Students of the School and Students from Farid Foundation.
The event saw the First Lady of the State, ably represented by the Wife of the Secretary to State Government, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar Usman, the founder of Farid foundation, Hajiya Jummai Gimba among others.
The Inernational Day of the Persons with Disabilities is an annual event which is being celebrated on the 3rd of every December.

NIGER STATE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION WARNS AGAINST UNNECESSARY CHARGES BY PUBLIC SCHOOLS MANAGERS
Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has warned against monetisation of essential working implements and outright extortion of Parents during School resumption by any public school Heads as the schools resume.
Niger State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed gave the warning in a statement ahead of Schools resumption on Monday.
She reiterated that any School manager found guilty would be sanctioned and punished accordingly.
The Commissioner noted that with the economic situation, it will not be fair to burden parents under the guise of providing items such as packet of Chalk, a Hoe, and cutlass for their children through unnecessary charges.
Dr. Hadiza also admonished against the way and manner in which some School managers add to the hardships of some parents extorting monies in the name of registration and admission fees, warning that no School should issue Admission into Secondary School, it is only the Ministry that issues Admission with index number.
"These are all issues that have been discussed during the Zonal meetings held with the School managers, Zonal Quality Assurance Directors, Head Teachers, Education Secretaries and Teachers recently in order to improve the Education landscape in the State" the commissioner reminded the Managers.
According to the statement, to lessen the burden of parents, the Ministry have taken the responsibility to provide every Student with School badge and Identification Cards for free and no School Manager should ask any Student to pay.
Furthermore, the State Government under the leadership of the Farmer Umaru Mohammad Bago is looking at ways and means of providing every child from ECCDE to Secondary School with School uniforms for free,
The statement added that in line with the policy, the termly Parent Teacher Association fee(PTA) have been reviewed according to Boarding Schools,Day and Primary Schools which will be paid termly as against the annual collection by the School managers.
By this statement, the Boarding Students are to pay the Sum of 2000 Naira only per term, the Day Students are to pay the sum of 1000 per term while the Primary Student are to pay 500 Naira per term to the PTA officials and not to the School managers anymore.
The PTA’ s are advised to open an account of the Association in the name of the School and for transparency and accountability nobody should use the money without the consent of the Ministry for purpose of clearance.
The Commissioner assured of the Farmer Umaru Mohammad Bago’s resolve to better the quality and integrity of Education System in line with his policy thrust of New Niger Agenda .

NIGER STATE MINISTRY OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION REELS OUT POLICIES FOR IMPROVED EDUCATION.
As part of effort to improve the quality of the overall landscape of Education in Niger State, the State Commissioner Of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed has announced new policies.
The Commissioner announced this during a meeting with Zonal Quality Assurance Directors, Principals and Head Teachers of Primary schools yesterday, 2nd September,2024
The policies include, the development of carrier path policy which will facilitate rank progression in the teaching profession, introduction of skills acquisition for Students exclusively on Fridays and the reviewed Textbooks for Public and Private Schools which has not been reviewed for decades among others.
Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed noted that the Government of Farmer Umaru Muhammad Bago is working tirelessly to ensure that henceforth textbooks and Uniforms for Pupils will be provided for free in all Public Schools.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Wasa Jonathan K stated that there will be no collection of PTA levies by the Schools but if the Schools insisted on the collection an account in the name of the Association should be opened and the money should go directly to the account for transparency and accountability.
In her submission, the State Cordinator, Niger State Adolescent Girls initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir opined that over 630 Schools would be renovated under the World Bank Assisted Project in the State.
The State Cordinator AGILE, observed that in Nigeria 60% of out-of-School children are girls and only 30% of Primary School girls transit to Secondary School.
She therefore called on all Stakeholders to ensure that girls were educated so as to have a representation in the society.
Speaking at the event, the NUT Chairman, Comrade Akayago Muhammad lauded the initiative of the Commissioner geared towards improving the educational landscape in the state, calling on the Commissioner to look into implementation of Teachers' promotion

NIGER MINISTRY OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION WITH NIGER AGILE POWERS 2024 WORLD SAFEGUARDING WEEK IN NIGER STATE.
As part of activities to commemorate the 2024 World Safeguarding Week, Niger State Ministry Of Basic and Secondary Education joined forces with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning Empowerment (AGILE) Niger State, with a series of impactful activities at Hiltop Model School, Minna.
The event saw the presence of the Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Wasa Jonathan K, the Permanent Secretary Niger State Budget and Planing Commission, Hajiya Rahmatu Umar, DG Schools and Educational reforms and DG Students Affairs as well as Directors from the Ministry and Agencies under the Ministry.
The event kicked off with the Niger State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed leading the team focusing on sanitation activities aimed at promoting hygiene and well-being among students, staff, and the community.
The Commissioner, while kick starting the activities highlighted the critical role of fostering safe and healthy environments for all.
In his remark the deputy Cordinator Niger AGILE, Salisu Danjuma emphasized the need for the Students to imbibe the culture of self hygiene, schools sanitation among others.
The deputy coordinator also noted that the AGILE project will provide incentives to enhance the education of the girl child and provide a conducive environment for Students.
The AGILE team delivered engaging presentations on topics ranging from gender equality and empowerment to life skills and self-care as well as Schools sanitation and hygiene.
This engagement of Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education with Niger AGILE further underscored the commitment to empowering adolescent girls through education and advocacy for their rights.
The presentations served as a platform to educate and inspire the school community on the importance of safeguarding practices and promoting a culture of respect and dignity for all.
The high point of the occasion was the hands-on sanitation activities conducted at Hiltop Model School, Minna, where students were actively involved in cleanliness drives, waste management initiatives, and awareness campaigns on hygiene practices.
