Easter

CONQUERING LORD,
today I celebrate Easter: Resurrection Sunday. My heart is full of joy and hope because of what this day represents. Easter signifies the day that you, Light of all light, burst forth from the tomb with incredible power, crushing sin and death. The brightest lights and grandest music can’t begin to capture what you, the Sunrise from on High, did that day.

What a stunning turnaround from the darkest of Fridays we remembered somberly two days ago. On that day, when an immovable stone sealed the place where you were laid, it seemed all hope was lost. But death and the grave simply could not hold you.

I recall some dark days in my life when I wondered if there would ever be light and hope again. Those were days that tested my faith and perseverance. But Resurrection Sunday, the exclamation point of the Good News, reminded me that you have triumphed over sin and death.

On this magnificent day, I worship you
—the Giver of all life. The Giver of new life. Amen!

May 31, 2021, I officially ended my tour of duty as Acting Head of Department. I lack words to express my deepest gratitude to all members of the Mass Comm family for the unparalleled support, goodwill and cooperation I received throughout my time on the job. You all proved beyond any shade of doubt that in Mass Comm, we are family. Thank you so much for tolerating all the shortcomings of my leadership style. If I have hurt anyone while discharging my mandate, I plead for forgiveness. It was all in the line of duty.

As I step aside, let me specially congratulate and welcome our freshest Head of Department, the incomparable Prof. Uzoma Okugo. The man I fondly call "Odogwu", an Elephant and a Colossus in the Communication profession. He's the father of the department, the first professor and solid rock of support throughout my tenure. I'm most pleased and satisfied that the mantle has fallen on him and no one else.

I thank the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, for this wise and objective choice. Let me also express my profound appreciation to the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof Zana Akpagu, for taking a chance on me when he appointed me pioneer HoD four years ago.

We have indeed come a long way. The experience of the past four years was really worth the sacrifices made. I join all of you to wish our new Boss a most rewarding and successful tenure. I pledge my unalloyed and undiluted support to him to enable him to take us to our eldorado because I have no doubt he has both the capacity and wherewithal to do exactly that.

Once again, lots of thanks and best wishes to you all.

Maiden edition of UNICAL TIMES, a publication of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Calabar, is finally launched today by the Vice-Chancellor. Congratulations to us all.

The maiden edition of our newspaper, UNICAL TIMES, is in the works. Watch out!

Please let's continue to pray for the speedy and comprehensive recovery of our student, Sharon Ekpang. It's also an opportunity for us to perform our lenten duty by visiting her and praying with her. Thank you all.

In swift response to the charge to enforce Covid-19 protocols in Faculties and Departments in the University of Calabar. Head of Department, Mass Communication and Digital Media, Dr Joseph Ekpang II appointed the following academic staff to ensure compliance to the use of face mask and other protocols.

They are :Dr. Eric Ogri as Chairman, Godwin Ðê'ÑOblë Omelagah , Nicholas Egere , Anthony Obi, Ugo Solomon Ugo (Solugo Solugo ) Patience Abu Eyo and Helen Dominic as members.

This is sequel to the Vice Chancellor's charge to ensure that every student complies with Covid-19 protocols for safety of students and staff.

Just set up Covid-19 Task Force for the Department with Dr. Eric Ogri as Chairman. Other members are Godwin Omelagah, Nick Egere, Anthony Obi, Ugo Solomon Ugo, Patience Abu Eyo and Helen Odey. Congratulations to all of them.

Finally, National Universities Commission, NUC, approves the department of Mass Communication for the University of Calabar. Congratulations to us.

Received a delegation from the Students Union Government Information Bureau yesterday in my office. The group was led by the SUG Director of Information.

Great to begin our practical training on 20th September, 2019.
