IF IT IS NOT BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY, IT IS NOT CHRISTIANITY
We live at a time that Christians are drifting to what I call human opinion Christianity, or my man of God's opinion Christianity.
But the truth is that if the Christianity we professes to practice is not BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY, then it is not CHRISTIANITY!
Someone define Biblical Christianity as
"Christianity that embraces the fullness of the Bible, even when it is unpopular or uncomfortable. Biblical Christianity puts the Bible first, culture second. All of the Bible is considered the true, inspired Word of God."
Acts of the Apostles Chapter 17 verses 10 to 12, also present a picture of what Biblical Christianity is for us, it says
"10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few."
The Berean Christians were said to, "searched the scriptures daily" to check whether what Apostle Paul told them was in-line, with what is contained therein.
This was why historically, the Christians in the days of the early church were called the people of the BOOK, and the book is no other but the BIBLE.
We are call to be Biblical Christians, don't plan to be anything less!
Shalom!
THE CHURCH IS NOT UNDER ATTACK!
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John.8:32.
Having carefully evaluated our experience as Christians in Nigeria, in the wake of the arrival of Corona virus pandemic and subsequent moves, measures and rules made by government at various levels to curtail its spread. Particularly the rule that suspended worship in the Mosque and the Church for the purpose of enforcing social distancing. I want to boldly say that the Church is not under attack!
Thus far the following is very clear and it is the truth with regards to the state of the church in our country as at today;
1. No law has been made that prevent individual Christians from praying to God, as it was in the days of Daniel. Dan 6:6-9. So whoever is not praying at this time, is the one who chooses not to pray.
2. No law has been made that prevent individual Christians from reading and studying the word of God. So whoever is not reading and studying the word of God, is the one who chooses not to read and study.
3. No law has been made that prevent individual Christians from living a holy life. So whoever is not living a holy life is the one who chooses not to live a holy life.
4. No law has been made that prevent individual Christians from listening to messages. So whoever is not listening to messages is the one who chooses not to listen to messages.
5. No law has been made that compel Christians to bow to other gods. So whoever is bowing to other gods at this time, is the one who chooses to bow to other gods.
6. No law has been made to arrest a Christian family for praying and reading the Bible inside their own home, with members of their own immediate family. None!
7. No Church building has been demolished and another structure put in its place because of Covid 19. None of our churches have been converted to isolation center for Covid 19 Suspect.
But what is the issue that makes the church to look as if it is under attack?
It is the issue of temporary suspension of congregational gathering inside the church building by the government, for the purpose of enforcing Social distancing rule and thereby stopping the spread of Corona virus.
Here are a few questions that we need to consider and provide answers to
1. What is social distancing?
Marriam Webster dictionary, define it as, “The practice of maintaining a greater than usual physical distance from other people or of avoiding direct contact with other people or objects in public places during the outbreak of a contagious disease in other to minimize exposure and reduce the transmission of infection.
2. Is social distancing Biblical?
The answer is yes! Ecl.3:1,5B
Ec:3:1: To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ec:3:5B: ……….. a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; (Social distancing)
3. What are some of the reasons in the Bible for social distancing?
a. In other not to be made unclean by contact with unclean objects and persons. Lev.5:2-3
Le:5:2: Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.
Le:5:3: Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty.
b. In other not to be infected by a contagious disease. (leprosy) Lev.13:45-46.
Le:13:45: And the l***r in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
Le:13:46: All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
c. In other not to be destroyed by what is destroying others. Exo.12:13, Isa.26:20-21.
Ex:12:13: And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Isa:26:20: Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.
Isa:26:21: For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
d. In other not to be corrupted by sinners. 2Cor.6:14-18, 1Cor.15:33.
2Co:6:14: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co:6:15: And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2Co:6:16: And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2Co:6:17: Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2Co:6:18: And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
1Co:15:33: Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
It is also important to address the issue of obedience to governmental orders.
From the Biblical perspective orders given by government should be obeyed. Rom. 13:1-7.
Ro:13:1: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Ro:13:2: Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Ro:13:3: For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Ro:13:4: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Ro:13:5: Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
Ro:13:6: For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Ro:13:7: Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Joseph and Mary submitted themselves to the order of the king for everyone to go back to their home state for census or for been taxed. Lk2:1-6.
Lu:2:1: And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
Lu:2:2: (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
Lu:2:3: And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
Lu:2:4: And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Lu:2:5: To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
Lu:2:6: And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
The only exception to obedience to governmental orders is when government or leaders deliberately design rules or laws to make you to loose or to spoil your relationship with God, or to make you to disobey God’s order. In such a situation a child of God is under obligation to obey God rather that men, to take side with God than with men. Acts 5:27-29.
Ac:5:27: And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
Ac:5:28: Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
Ac:5:29: Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
This was also the position of the three Hebrew brethren. Dan.3:8-18.
Da:3:8: Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
Da:3:9: They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
Da:3:10: Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
Da:3:11: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
Da:3:12: There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
Da:3:13: Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king.
Da:3:14: Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
Da:3:15: Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
Da:3:16: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
Da:3:17: If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
Da:3:18: But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
Note: The governmental order to stay at home on the matter of Corona virus pandemic was not a deliberately designed rules or laws to make you to loose or to spoil your relationship with God, or to make you to disobey God’s order. But rather it is in-line with Exo. 12:13 and Isa.26:20.
Lastly, it is important to state the following;
1. That, stay at home or no stay at home, the church belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, and he will continue to build it and to keep it. Mat.16:18
M't:16:18: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
2. Whatever the church is going through now is but a light affliction, which is but for a moment , and works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 2Cor.4:17.
2Co:4:17: For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
3. Whatever the church is going through now will surely work together for her good; Rom.8:28.
Ro:8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
4. That wherever you are at a time such as this, self isolating yourself and family members in line with governmental orders, the lord will still reach you with his supplies in Jesus name. Check; 1kings 17:1-6.
1Ki:17:1: And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
1Ki:17:2: And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
1Ki:17:3: Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
1Ki:17:4: And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
1Ki:17:5: So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
1Ki:17:6: And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
In closing: We pray that:
*God bless and keep the church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Nigeria!
* God bless and keep the church of the Lord Jesus Christ in all the nations of the world!
*God bless and keep our Nation Nigeria!
