Errors in the Use of Nouns
A noun is a word or group of words of that refers to a person ( such as "umar" "trader" or "police officer"), a plece ( such as " gombe" or "school" ), a thing or activity ( such as " tea" or "tennis") or a quality or idea ( such as " sorrow"or "happiness" ). A noun can be used as the subject or object of a verb (as in "The doctor came" or "we dislike the doctor" )or as an object of a preposition ( as in "good at mathematics" or "bad at economics").

1.Tissue paper / Toilet paper
Wrong: i am going to the toilet.I need a tissue paper.
Correct: I am going to the toilet.I need a roll of toilet paper.
The two words have confused many learners.A tissue (or tissue paper) is a light thin paper used for wrapping, packing etc.It is also used for for blowing the nose.A toilet paper is a soft thin paper used for cleaning yourself after you have used the toilet. We usually talk about a
box of tissue (or tissue paper)
2.The public/in public
Wrong:I saw him eating in the public.
Correct:I saw him in public
3.speaking a tribe/speaking a language
Wrong: umar and dayo speak the same tribe.
Correct: umar and dayo speak the same language.peaple usually speak a language or language but come from a tribe or tribes, place, etc.
4. Backside/ Back
Wrong: she is at the backside of the house.
Correct: she is at back of the house.
Correct: she is behind the house.
5. Second/partner
Wrong: my second is not in the office today.
Correct: my colleague is not in the office today. gs
