Lagos school owners commence Unified Termly Examination
The Lagos State Chapter of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has commenced preparation for the maiden edition of Unified Termly Examinations for its member schools billed to hold this term. The President of the association, Alh. Akande Kamal, revealed this at a seminar organised on Item Writing, Moderation and Evaluation organised for teachers of the member schools.
Alh.Kamal disclosed that unlike the Unified Promotional Examinations which started in 2014, this new initiative is expected to take place every term across the designated centres in the state. He added that the seminar was facilitated by Lagos State Examination Board, to develop the human capacity needs for the successful implementation of the project.
He said, “Among other advantages, the termly examinations will compel the teachers to cover the termly scheme of work. In addition, the questions will be automatically standardized since it will comply with the standard and cover the national curriculum. Registrations of participants will be done via the NAPPS website, and results will be released on the same platform.”

Speaking further on the logistics and other measures put in place for the success of the examination, Mr. Joseph A*o, Special Assistant to the NAPPS Chairman, disclosed that unlike the technical hitches that characterized the conduct of previous examinations, the new administration has commenced early preparation for smooth ex*****on.
He said, “The aims of the examination is to help prepare students for public examinations. NAPPS has made adequate provisions to ensure that question papers and the OMR answer sheets get to all the centres timely. Coordinators and invigilators have been trained to ensure hitch free conduct of the examination. We commenced preparation very early, in order to ensure that nothing is left undone.”
He further stated that the examination will enhance healthy rivalry among member schools in the state. He also added that the training session has exposed the teachers to how to set standard examination questions within the context of the approved school curriculum.
He said, “We discovered during the workshop that most of the schools have not been complying with the use of the government’s approved school curriculum. With the development, member schools will not share common textbooks. Consequently, this examination would compel all member schools to begin to follow the contents in the curriculum to the letter. Member schools will be encouraged to cover the syllabus adequately.
He stated that the NAPPS termly unified examination will help participating pupils gain the mastery of sitting for final external examinations such as WAEC, JAMB and NECO, thereby reducing exam-fright and rates of failure.
6334reporters gathered all the Primary 1-5, JSS1 and 3, and SS1 and SS3 pupils in all the member schools will participate in the examination. All the pupils are expected to write English, Mathematics and other subjects as contained in the national curriculum.
