In the just concluded faculty of Engineering Election held yesterday the 16th of March, 2018.
It was indeed a wonderful experience and a wonderful time, after the several misunderstanding and differences. The Dean of the faculty (Prof. Kessington Obahiagbon) in his wisdom had to make this Election the best, peaceful and most quiet Election in the history of Faculty of Engineering and in University of Benin. It was an electronic voting, hitch free, free and fair, fast and simple...
This are the results of the elections and once again, we want to congratulate the winners and the NUESA Executives Elect!!!
God bless you all!!

REBROADCAST/SHARE IF YOU FEEL THE PAINS OF UNIBEN STUDENTS TOO.-- ---- ------------------------------------ *THE LADDER: Allow us climb; UNIBEN STUDENTS cry out to the EDO STATE GOVERNMENT*.
When UNIBEN was UNIBEN, things were not like this, things were not this bad-this is a commonplace saying by older generation of UNIBEN graduates and students to the successive generations. We hear this all the time. Year after year, things get worse. More policies are promulgated to inflict injuries on successive generations of the NIGERIAN students. Injuries that will make it difficult for us to climb the academic ladder. The most recent is the "proposed" insensitive taxing of the UNIBEN STUDENT SHUTTLE. Proposed, because the student community has not accepted to swallow the poisonous pill prescribed by the EDO LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS. We are sick and tired of the harsh condition under which we learn, we need therapeutic pills such as bursary, scholarship grants, loans and social securities. Not this type they are dispensing to us.
The local government has join forces with its superior; the STATE GOVERNMENT and declared that every UNIBEN STUDENT SHUTTLE should hand over #36,000(Thirty-six thousand Naira) monthly to their coffers in the guise of tax. This will force the regular #50(Fifthy Naira) transport fair to an amount not less than #70(Seventy Naira); a minimum of #20(Twenty Naira) difference that seem small to the average earner but has a far reaching effect on the already financially limping UNIBEN STUDENT.
With this policy, the GOVTs in EDO STATE have perfected plot to mercilessly flog us(UNIBEN STUDENTS) until we submit our pocket money to them on the alter of transportation. We all know that as with age, when a transport fare of this nature goes up, it never comes down. It will be an eternal visceral wound, with the current final year students leaving with the first set of scars. Future generations of UNIBEN STUDENTS will by turn, suffer the malignant incision if nothing is done today about the budding plot.
We have decided to go through this ivory tower(UNIBEN) in spite of how tasking the climb maybe.
-We grapple with accommodation issues
-We carry the burden of feeding
-We bear the heavy burden of books.
Tuition fee is fair(That was why many of us came here apart from the school's prestige) and we are grateful for that. Even at that, some students still find it difficult to pay. Sometimes we stick together to raise fund for such students through the collective will of pocket money.
But this cross THE EDO STATE GOVTS is handing over to us is too heavy for us to bear. It will perforate holes in our pockets to the point that we wont have the financial strength to climb the Academic ladder.
Our parents don't have the capacity to supply the kind of pocket money that can meet up with what THE GOVTS are demanding from us. Our parents are complaining of the lack of payment of pension.
Our parents' minimum wage is still small. As a matter of fact, some of our parents that reside within BENIN CITY also take the UNIBEN SHUTTLE to save money for our tuition fee and to make ends meet.
We don't like this unfair vicissitudes. Our SUG LEADERS had gone for negotiation and dialogues with the STATE GOVERNMENT. The union leaders were highly expectant given that it was the DEPUTY GOVERNOR that stood in for the STATE. It would be recalled that the DEPUTY GOVERNOR was a former PRESIDENT of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS(NANS). It was assumed that he would understand and carry the interest of the students. We don't know what went wrong, even the STATE GOVERNOR went through a NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY( U.I) too. Many shakers and movers in the cabinet of the current government used the UNIBEN LADDER to climb. Why do they want to make climbing difficult for us. Are they scared of saying the truth?
We don't have fleet of cars; UNIBEN STUDENT SHUTTLE is our means of transportation.
We don't study abroad, Nigerian public universities are where we belong.
You wont let your children take UNIBEN STUDENT SHUTTLE; yet our parents even join us on the student shuttle.
You call us LOCAL STUDENTS and make your children FOREIGN STUDENTS.
When it comes to job opportunities, you say the local students are half-baked.
In your time, when you fight injustice you said you were brave. If we decide to fight this injustice you are subjecting us to, you may tag us CULTISTS..
Now that you have climbed the ladder to the top, you are now oppressing us via unfavourable policies.
You don't even consult us-the NIGERIAN students.
You don't want us to climb but you want the best for your children.
All we are saying is allow us to climb our already shaky wooden ladder. We know your children are climbing firm and golden ladder abroad and in private schools.
*DONT GATHER OUR POCKET MONEY HERE TO PAY YOUR CHILDREN'S FEES ABROAD AND IN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES. PLEASE LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. WE SAY NO TO TAXING UNIBEN STUDENT SHUTTLE*
We don't want to drop out of school.
You cannot force our boys into robbery.
You will not push our girls into prostitution.
You cannot cause our parents to have high blood pressure.
*We are law abiding students, but there is a limit to what we can take*

*EDO STATE GOVERNMENT* versus *UNIBEN STUDENTS*
Composed and presented by *THE STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT*, UNIVERSITY OF BENIN.
*A CALL FOR JUSTICE*
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
In a society as vast and endowed like Nigeria, it is painful that we still struggle and agitate before we can get the dividends of democracy. A system of government by the people especially by the majority. A system of government were the Supreme power rest on the people.
But what is the hope of the common man when the man with the mandate turns out to be the oppressor of the masses.
WHAT HAVE UNIBEN STUDENTS DONE TO DESERVE THIS?
It is indeed good to pay tax to any constituted authority but what is the way forward for university of Benin students when the much reverend tax and harmonised tax turns out to be an act of exploitation?
On August 24th, 2017, the STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT had a meeting with the Deputy governor Rt hon Phillip Shaibu as regard the new harmonised levies and taxes pegged at 200 Naira daily which was expected to be paid to officials of Oredo local government council. The Deputy state governor declared publicly before pressmen and women that he will lead a protest along side the Students Union government should the shuttle bus drivers decide to increase their shuttle fare from Uniben to Ringroad and New benin as a result of the new levy(N200) which was N50 under the previous governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. (See Vanguard newspaper, 25th August 2017 as proof of this claim).
The Students Union government executives left the state house reaching an agreement with the state government that the only levy to be paid, is N200 to Oredo local government and not Akhugbe Ventures.
To our surprise, the state government as at today, October 7th 2017, increased the levy to N800 disrespecting our initial agreement and Egor local government now charge N200, Ovia North East N200 making everything N1,200 from the University shuttle buses.
WHAT KIND OF EXPLOITATION IS THIS?
WHERE IS THE DIVIDEND OF DEMOCRACY?
WHO IS ROBBING WHO?
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR NIGERIA STUDENTS IN EDO STATE?
This demonic levy made the University shuttle drivers to increase their fare from N50 to N70 today because they have families to feed.
After putting a call across to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, he told the Students Union government to go to hell that the University did not support his governorship ambition.
JUST IMAGINE!!!!!!
The students Union government as at this minute have exhaust all form of dialogue.
We will not stand and watch our students suffer. Our civil servants parents have not been paid their salaries, pensioners now feed from hand to mouth and to make things worse, there have not been increase in the minimum wage and the government is increasing levies and they are not even concerned about the welfare and plight of the youths who they claim are the future leaders of Nigeria.
In conclusion, the Students Union government, University of Benin call on UNIBEN STUDENTS, ACTIVISTS, COMRADES AND YOUTHS to be prepared for............ Since the state government have push us to the wall, it is now officially the EDO STATE GOVERNMENT versus UNIBEN STUDENTS.
LET THE DANCE BEGIN.

*UBITS cup Day3 Fixture Preview*
The group of Death finally draws to a close and it saved its best for last as all four teams stands a chance in qualifying for the knockout stage.
The first match sees the *Mechanics* as they entertain the *Civilians*... This match is a do or die affair... as a victory sees either team qualify for the knockout stage...
While that is going on the *Chemical* will have to find something special if they are to get passed *Structural*... a win for *Chemical* sees them go through regardless of results from the other matches and a win for *Structural* see them go through on goal difference if the *Mechanics* can beat the *Civilians*... all hands and boots must be on deck as this is sure to bring drama, excitement and entertainment.
Then by 3 30
The *Architects* faces off with the *Petroleum Oil Money* in a pivotal match as a Victory for either team guarantees successful passage to the next round.
In the other fixture, the *Electricians* will just be playing for pride after their disgraceful exit... as they entertain the *Surveyors* , a victory for the *Surveyors* guarantees a spot in the knockout stage regardless of what goes on in the other matches... a draw also sees them through if and only if the *Architects* can defeat *Petroleum*
Finally... the Group stage draws to a close with the *Producers* whom have already secured qualification to the knockouts in a top of the table clash with the freshest guys from *Computer*... *Computer* must ensure they don't lose by a wide margin if they are to advance to the next stage
*VTE* doesn't just need a win but a big win against *Geomatics* as their qualification solely lies on the results between the *Producers* and *Computer*.
*Geomatics* will just be playing for pride as well... as they say fair well to the competition after two consecutive defeats
-Will the *Mechanics* live up to expectations?
- will *Structural* bow to the supremacy of *Chemical*?
- will the *Producers* continue their 100percent record?
- will the *Electricians* continue to disappoint the full faculty?
- or will * * continue to give us updates on the tournament?... 😏Ofcourse he will.
Make it a date at Old trafford(Education field 1) and Ethihad stadium(Education field 2).... I wonder why sombori will miss this one 🙄
