2 weeks ago i started at my ward posting at university of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where i was posted to Ward B2 which is divided into 3 units which are
•Ear,nose and throat unit
•Urology unit
•Oral Maxillofacial Surgery units
I had the opportunity to witness a wide range of medical procedures and gain valuable insights. In the ENT unit, I observed intricate throat surgeries and learned about the delicate anatomy of the throat.
In Urology unit, I assisted in various diagnostic procedures and surgeries related to the urinary system and also in the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery unit was equally enlightening, where I saw complex facial malignant conditions.
One particularly fascinating experience I witnessed during this week posting was an emergency tracheostomy tube insertion to a patient in the ENT unit. The speed and precision with which the surgical team acted to save the patient's life left a lasting impression on me. This experience reinforced the importance of teamwork, quick decision-making, and the critical role of healthcare professionals in urgent situations. Overall, my clinical postings provided me with a well-rounded exposure to different specialties and deepened my appreciation for the medical field.
