Edo Education Ministry, NECO Edo Chapter Seeks Collaboration for Smooth Conduct of 2026 Exams
The Edo State Ministry of Education held a stakeholders’ meeting with the National Examinations Council (NECO), Edo State Chapter, at the Ministry’s premises in Iyaro, Benin City, on 17th June 2026.
The aim of the meeting was to seek collaboration with the Ministry ahead of the forthcoming NECO examination in Edo State.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, welcomed them to the Ministry and thereafter presented the Ministry’s concern about the examination body boycotting the Ministry in the operation of the examination. He specifically cited the supervision of examinations by unidentified supervisors through a link, for which the State Ministry cannot be held responsible.
In response, the NECO State Coordinator, Mrs. Joyce Ominiabohs, said it was not NECO Edo’s making to boycott the Ministry. She explained that it was a directive and instruction from the National Headquarters which they were obligated to follow, and presented a document to the Permanent Secretary to that effect.
Mr. Tolulope E. Imoru, Deputy Director of Examinations, spoke on behalf of NECO on how helpless they were. He solicited the Ministry’s assistance and said they would report the unfavourable impact of the policy to the National Headquarters and return to work out a more friendly, collaborative approach.
Mr. Enodolomwanyi concluded by stating that there was a need for NECO to go back to the drawing board and develop a more encompassing framework for the betterment of all.

EDO ANCOPSS SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH MINISTRY OF EDUCATION IN COURTESY VISIT
The Edo State Chapter of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, at the Ministry’s premises in Iyaro, Benin City, on 16th June 2026.
The aim of the visit was to congratulate the Permanent Secretary on his assumption of office and to seek collaboration with the Ministry.
On arrival, the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Enomhonbor Julius Osahon, said the purpose of their visit was to welcome the new Permanent Secretary and to present themselves as the umbrella body whose mandate is to work in collaboration with the Ministry for the smooth operation of secondary schools in Edo State.
In his response, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, thanked them for deeming it fit to visit. He immediately engaged them on the issue of younger officers serving as principals ahead of senior officers. He threw the matter open for suggestions and solutions.
Responding, Mrs. Igbadume Susan, ANCOPSS Secretary, affirmed that the challenge is real and currently being experienced. She explained that the issue stems from the dichotomy between teachers in Junior Secondary Schools under SUBEB and teachers in Senior Secondary school under SSEB According to her, even when an officer is of a higher grade level, they cannot cross over, and this has become a major challenge.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, assured them that the Ministry would look into the matter. He requested that ANCOPSS propose a communiqué on the management of officers in secondary schools and forward it to the Ministry.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION WELCOMES TEAM EDO BACK FROM INDONESIA WITH TROPHY
The Edo State Ministry of Education, led by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamere along side SSEB Chairman Dr. (Mrs.) Rita Otibho received Team Edo and its delegation at Benin Airport on 15th June 2026. The team was led by the Chairman of SUBEB, Mrs. Omonzane Ebanehita Sonia.
Team Edo represented Nigeria at the Nigeria-Indonesia Bilateral International Debate Competition and emerged as overall winners. The two contestants, Miss Victoria Nwaezeapu from Urora Secondary School and Master Thomas Treasure from Western Boys High School, finished first to beat their Indonesia contestants.
Speaking at the reception, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, commended the feat. He congratulated the students and thanked the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his commitment to transforming the education sector in the state. He also congratulated the Ministry of Education and assured every Edo child that more achievements are on the way.
In her remarks, the leader of the delegation to Indonesia and SUBEB Chairman, Mrs. Omonzane, congratulated the students and Governor Okpebholo. She said the victory is proof that the governor is not relenting in his efforts to position every Edo child for success. She concluded that the award is not just for the students, but for Edo State and Nigeria at large.
