THE GENERATOR IS NOT THE ONLY COST

EEDC took light around 7pm.

Chinedu started the generator. Ten minutes later, he was already calculating fuel in his head.

The shop was still open. Customers were still coming. The fridge had to keep running. The phones needed charging.

And that’s the part people sometimes miss about power problems.

It’s not only the fuel you buy. It’s the work that gets interrupted, the appliances that suffer, and the business decisions you keep postponing.

Now imagine being the person a shop owner calls when they say, “I need something better than this generator wahala.”

You understand the load. You can inspect the setup. You can recommend a practical solution and install it properly.

That is a different kind of value.

If solar is the direction you want to explore, send OGM TSA a DM with “SOLAR.”

ANYONE CAN LOOK AT A WORKING SYSTEM

The real test comes when it stops working.

A solar system that is functioning perfectly doesn’t tell you much about your troubleshooting ability.

A CCTV system showing all cameras doesn’t tell you how you’ll react when one disappears.

A smart-home system responding perfectly doesn’t tell you what you’ll do when devices stop communicating.

The real professional is developed when things become uncertain.

You learn to stop guessing.

You learn to test before replacing.

You learn to look for causes instead of symptoms.

And gradually, you become the person who can walk into a problem and say:

“Let’s find out what’s happening here.”

That’s a completely different level of confidence.

Not confidence from knowing everything.

Confidence from knowing how to find the answer.

THE HIDDEN FAULT PATH

A customer may call and say:

“The system isn’t working.”

That’s all the information you get.

No fault code.
No technical explanation.
No step-by-step guide.

You arrive and have to start somewhere.

You observe.

You ask questions.

You inspect.

You test.

You trace.

You eliminate possibilities.

Maybe the solar system isn’t charging because of something completely different from what the customer assumed.

Maybe the CCTV camera isn’t faulty—the problem is somewhere in its power or network path.

Maybe the smart-home device isn’t the problem at all.

This is why technical training should produce more than people who can install.

It should produce people who can think when things go wrong.

Because in the real world, customers don’t call you only when everything is working.

They call you because something isn’t.

THE GRAND PRIZE ISN'T THE CERTIFICATE

At the end of training, there will be a certificate.

But imagine something bigger.

A few months later, your phone rings:

“Please, can you come and check our solar system?”

Another call:

“We need CCTV installed at our new branch.”

Another:

“Can you help us automate the lighting in our house?”

And you don’t respond with:

“I only learnt this in class.”

You respond with:

“Tell me what you’re experiencing.”

That’s the real destination.

From trainee…

to technician.

From technician…

to problem-solver.

From problem-solver…
to someone people trust with real work.

The certificate marks the end of training. Your ability to solve problems is what starts your professional journey.

THE CUSTOMER SEES ONE PROBLEM. YOU HAVE TO SEE THE WHOLE SYSTEM.

A customer says:

“My inverter isn’t working.”

But you shouldn’t immediately think "inverter".

You think about the system around it.

Power source.

Connections.

Protection.

Battery.

Configuration.

Load.

Other components.

The same thing happens with CCTV.

One camera is offline—but where exactly is the failure?

Camera?

Cable?

Power?

Network?

Recorder?

And with smart-home automation:

One device isn’t responding—but is the device faulty, or is something upstream affecting communication?

This is what makes technical work interesting.

You are not just fixing objects. You’re understanding relationships between systems.

That is the kind of knowledge that makes a technician increasingly valuable.
