A STUBBORN CHILD—both at school and at home—requires patience, consistency, and understanding, not force.

Stubbornness is often a sign of strong will, unmet emotional needs, or a desire for control, not necessarily bad behaviour.

, UNDERSTAND THE CHILD
A child may appear stubborn because:
They want to feel heard or respected
They are frustrated or overwhelmed
Rules are inconsistent
They are seeking attention or control
They are naturally strong-willed.

Once you understand the “why,” discipline becomes easier.

Setting Goals for the New Term:
The Role of Parents, Teachers, the School, and Society

A new school term presents a fresh opportunity to reset priorities, build better habits, and pursue excellence. Goal-setting at the beginning of the term is most effective when it is a shared responsibility involving parents, teachers, the school as an institution, and the wider society. Each has a distinct but interconnected role to play.

Setting goals for a new term is not a solo effort. When parents, teachers, schools, and society work together, learners are better positioned to succeed academically, morally, and socially. A child nurtured by this partnership is more likely to grow into a responsible, confident, and productive member of society.

“It takes a community to raise a child—and a shared vision to guide that child to success.”

Focus and Goal Setting
The main goal of the new term is academic progress.
Set Clear Goals: Students should consider what they want to achieve this term—whether it’s improving a grade in a specific subject, reading a certain number of books, or mastering a difficult skill. Setting both short-term and long-term goals provides motivation.
Active Participation: Be ready to participate actively in lessons. This means asking thoughtful questions, contributing to discussions, and engaging with the material rather than just passively listening.
Effort and Ownership: Students are expected to put forth their best effort on all assignments, projects, and tests. Taking ownership of one’s education by seeking help when needed (from teachers or peers) is a key expectation for success.
Focus on Learning: Remember that the primary activity in the classroom is learning. Students should minimize distractions and prioritize their academic tasks during school hours and dedicated study time at home.
