As a testimony to the culture of academic excellence, hard work and determination in St. John Vianney Science College, our two students, Chibueze Jennifer and Obiokafor Catherine are among the students representing Nigeria in the 2026 World Schools Debate Championship.
WSDC is the biggest secondary school debating competition in the world, with over 85 participating countries. The 2026 edition is historic — it marks the first time in 15 years the championship will be hosted in Africa, and only the second time ever on the continent.
Team Nigeria was selected from the very best debaters across the country through a Nationwide Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition, organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
Our students proved their worth effortlessly and were chosen to be part of Team Nigeria!!
We wish them success as they ascend the world stage!!!

TEAM NIGERIA (WSDC Kenya 2026)
Catherine Obiokafor
St. John Vianney Science College | Team Nigeria – WSDC
Some people grow into debate. Catherine walked in and behaved like she had been there before.
Less than two weeks after encountering competitive debating for the first time, she found herself lifting the trophy at the UK–Nigeria Debate Championship. No long backstory. No dramatic buildup. Just preparation, composure, and a mind that quickly understood how arguments breathe.
The momentum continued. In 2025, she emerged as one of the winners of the Nationwide Secondary Schools E-Debate Competition in Abuja, affirming that her first victory was no coincidence.
Catherine thrives as a Lead Speaker. Give her the opening slot and she will map the terrain, define the battle lines, and make the judges comfortable before the storm begins. Recently, however, she has developed a growing affection for rebuttal speeches. There is something about stepping into the final spotlight, gathering every clash, every contradiction, and stitching it into a clear story that appeals to her instincts. She increasingly gravitates toward rebuttal, where quick thinking meets quiet confidence.
Outside debate, her playlists are dominated by Kendrick Lamar. The lyricism, the layered meaning, the intentional pauses all resonate with her. She also loves travelling. New cities recharge her. Airports excite her. Exposure sharpens perspective, and that perspective sharpens argument.
Watch her in a debate round and you will see it immediately. Calm eyes. Steady voice. Strategic mind.
Polite in tone. Ruthless in analysis.

TEAM NIGERIA (WSDC Kenya 2026)
Chibueze Chinenyenwa Jennifer l
St. John Vianney Science College | Team Nigeria – WSDC
Some debaters spend years “finding their voice.” Jennifer found hers in less than twelve days and then promptly used it to win an international championship.
Introduced to competitive debating just under two weeks before her first major tournament, Jennifer went on to win the UK–Nigeria Debate Championship, a win that announced her arrival and went really viral.
Since then, Jennifer has grown into one of the premier debaters of St. John Vianney Science College Ukwulu, known for her sharp structure, fearless engagement, and unapologetic love for rebuttal. Put her as First Supporting Speaker and she builds foundations with precision. Challenge her case, and she responds with surgical rebuttals.
In 2025, she was also one of the winners of the Nationwide Secondary Schools E-Debate Competition in Abuja, further cementing her reputation as a rising force in Nigerian debating. Beyond the debate chamber, her eloquence and leadership earned her the crown of National Head Girl 2025, making her the number one head girl in Nigeria.
And at WSDC, she is just getting started.
