Community in Shock Over Daylight Shooting of Young Vulcanizer along Warrake Road

In a tragic turn of events, a young vulcanizer identified as Boyo has been shot dead by unknown gunmen along Warrake Road in Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State, on Friday, the 2nd of May. The attack reportedly occurred shortly before 4 PM.

According to witnesses, two armed men arrived on a motorcycle near Boyo’s roadside shop. The passenger dismounted, approached Boyo who was reportedly resting at his workspace and fired two shots at close range. The assailants fled immediately, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.

“It happened so fast. The shooter didn’t say a word. He just fired and escaped with the bike rider. We were all terrified,” said a nearby trader who requested anonymity.

The killing has sent shockwaves through Warrake Road, where Boyo was known as a hardworking tradesman. Residents described the area as typically peaceful, with many now questioning their safety. “How can someone be murdered in broad daylight? We urge the police to act swiftly,” remarked a community leader.

As of press time, authorities have not issued a statement regarding the incident or potential suspects. Community members are demanding a thorough probe into the attack, with some speculating whether the shooting was cult related.

📢 According to the circular:

✍️The Rector has directed that Lectures for the Second Semester should commence fully without any delay, irrespective of the number of students present in class.

This means that:

✅ Lecturers are to begin classes immediately.

✅ Even if it's only one student present, lectures should hold.

✍️All academic activities at Auchi Polytechnic have been officially suspended for two weeks following the commencement of a strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).

✍️The decision was communicated to the management of the institution and takes effect from today, December 2, 2024. This strike follows directives from the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUP, after unresolved issues during their emergency meeting held from November 26th to 29th, 2024.
