FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NANCES CONDEMNS ATTEMPTED MARGINALISATION OF COLLEGE OF EDUCATION CANDIDATE IN NANS ZONE F CONVENTION
The National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) has received with deep concern the ongoing attempts to sideline and deliberately marginalise a duly qualified College of Education student participating as a candidate in the forthcoming NANS Zone F Convention in person of Comrade Juliet Obinta.
We state emphatically and without ambiguity that we will not fold our hands and watch any individual or group disenfranchise a student of any College of Education from contesting, participating, or benefitting from the democratic structures of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
NANS remains the umbrella body of all Nigerian students, irrespective of institution type—be it university, polytechnic, monotechnic, or college of education. As long as you are studying in a recognised tertiary institution in Nigeria, you are fully entitled to vote and be voted for. No organ or bloc of NANS has the authority to intimidate or suppress the political rights of another.
It is important to remind all stakeholders that history bears witness to the fact that leadership in NANS has never been limited to a particular institution or category. A prominent example is Comrade Lucky Emonefe, who rose from a College of Education to become President of NANS. If a College of Education student could lead the entire Nigerian student body at the national level, then it is baseless, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable for anyone to claim that a College of Education student cannot aspire to or emerge as Coordinator of a Zone.
NANCES therefore calls on all College of Education students across the South-East and the entire Zone F to stand united, rise in solidarity, and defend our collective mandate. We must resist every form of intimidation, suppression, or foreseen marginalisation targeted at our candidate or our constituency.
We remain committed to a fair, democratic and inclusive NANS where every student has equal opportunity to participate and serve.
An injury to one College of Education student is an injury to all.

NANCES President

This appointment is a testament to General Musa’s unwavering patriotism, exceptional leadership qualities, and his distinguished record of service to our beloved nation. *NANCES STATEMENT ON THE EDON 3D SOFTWARE AND ITS TRANSFORMATIONAL IMPACT ON TEACHING AND LEARNING: OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE*
The National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) celebrates the groundbreaking introduction of the EDON 3D software, a remarkable innovation that is revolutionizing teaching and learning across Colleges of Education in Nigeria. This cutting-edge technology marks a major leap in the modernization of teacher training, enabling students to engage with highly interactive, visual, and immersive learning experiences that deepen understanding and improve academic outcomes.
We particularly commend the visionary leadership of Dr. Idonuagbe Akogun, whose foresight, passion, and relentless drive made this historic innovation a reality. His commitment to advancing teacher education through technology has paved the way for a new era of smart learning, digital competency, and 21st-century instructional delivery.
Our recent visits to Federal College of Education, Iwo in Osun State, and the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo in Ebonyi State, further affirm the effectiveness and transformative power of the EDON 3D Software. During these visits, NANCES witnessed firsthand how the software is reshaping classroom engagement and strengthening students’ understanding of complex concepts.
The overwhelming appreciation expressed by students in both institutions toward TETFund, The NCCE and E-DON speaks volumes. Many of them testified that, through this innovation, they now feel empowered and confident that they can compete favorably with their counterparts across the globe. Their enthusiasm reflects the real value of this initiative—bridging educational gaps, improving digital exposure, and elevating the standard of teacher education in Nigeria.
NANCES also acknowledges the monumental step taken by some Colleges of Education in the consideration of a signing of an agreement with EDON for a long term partnership speaks volumes to both the value and possibilities this can bring to our students and tertiary institutions. This bold move demonstrates a clear institutional commitment to sustaining, expanding, and fully integrating the digital learning with EDON 3D software as a great template into academic programs. It represents a landmark decision that will ensure long-term access, continuous improvement, and wider adoption of this transformative educational tool.
As an association, we stand firmly in support of every initiative that strengthens teacher education, enhances digital literacy, and positions our students for global competitiveness. The EDON 3D software marks a defining moment in our academic journey, and we look forward with great optimism to the positive impact it will deliver across campuses nationwide.
NANCES… Raising the Standards.

NANCES FROWN AT THE PURPORTED CLOSURE OF UNITY SCHOOLS AMID RISING INSECURITY IN NIGERIA
The National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) strongly condemns in totality the closure of Unity Schools across the country amid the rising insecurity in our dear country Nigeria, While the safety of students, teachers, and school communities must remain a top national priority, shutting down schools is not only a short-sighted approach but also a dangerous precedent that undermines the future of our children and the educational stability of our nation.
At a time when Nigeria is grappling with increasing security challenges, the solution cannot be to retreat or surrender the educational space to criminal elements. Compounding the problem is never the solution. Instead, what is urgently required is a bold, coordinated, and decisive action from the Federal Government, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders to secure our learning environments.
NANCES calls on the Federal Government to:
1. Immediately strengthen security architecture around all Unity Schools and other vulnerable institutions nationwide.
2. Deploy adequate security personnel with modern surveillance equipment to prevent attacks.
3. Invest in community-based intelligence gathering to identify threats before they escalate.
4. Fast-track the implementation of Safe School Initiative policies across the country.
5. Hold state and local authorities accountable for lapses in security around educational institutions.
Education remains the backbone of national development. Closing schools because of insecurity sends a disturbing message—that Nigeria is losing the fight to protect its next generation. We refuse to accept this narrative.
NANCES stands firmly with students across the country and demands practical, immediate, and sustained action to secure our campuses, our communities, and our nation. We urge the government to rise to its responsibility and restore confidence in the safety of our schools.
Nigeria must be secured, not shut down.

NANCES CONDEMNS THE ABDUCTION OF STUDENTS IN KEBBI STATE, THE KILLING OF AN ARMY GENERAL, AND THE ATTACK ON CAC CHURCH IN ERUKU, KWARA STATE, CALL FOR IMMEDIATE STATE OF EMERGENCY ON INSECURITY IN NIGERIA
The National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) expresses deep sorrow, outrage, and total condemnation of the recent wave of violent attacks across the nation, including:
The abduction of innocent students in Kebbi State,
The brutal murder of a senior Army General, and the violent attack on worshippers at the CAC Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
These tragic incidents represent yet another heartbreaking reminder of the worsening security situation in Nigeria. Our schools are under attack, our military officers—who sacrifice daily for our safety—are being murdered, and our places of worship are no longer safe. No nation can progress under such fear, violence, and unchecked criminality.
CALL FOR URGENT FEDERAL ACTION
NANCES calls on the workaholic President of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate, decisive, and extraordinary measures to address this escalating insecurity. We strongly urge:
1. A Declaration of a State of Emergency on Insecurity across Nigeria.
2. A Presidential Matching Order to the Security Chiefs to decisively eradicate bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists from our communities.
3. Immediate rescue operations to ensure the safe return of the abducted Kebbi students and all other victims in captivity.
4. Increased protection for schools, religious institutions, and rural communities, which have become primary targets of attacks.
5. Strengthened intelligence operations to dismantle the networks enabling these crimes.
NIGERIAN STUDENTS HAVE HAD ENOUGH
Our classrooms must never become hunting grounds for criminals. The lives of students, teachers, service members, and ordinary citizens matter. We refuse to normalize fear. We refuse to accept the erosion of our national security.
NANCES stands in solidarity with the families affected, with the Nigerian Armed Forces, and with every victim of insecurity across our country. We demand justice, swift action, and lasting solutions.
Nigeria must be safe again. Our students must be protected. Our nation must rise, let's join hand with the President to Renew the Security architecture of our dear Nation Nigeria.

NANCES Calls for Urgent Government Intervention on Ongoing Strike in Kaduna State Tertiary Institutions
The National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) is deeply worried over the indefinite strike actions currently embarked upon by the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya Chapter, and the Joint Unions of Tertiary Institutions of Kaduna State (JUTIKS).
The industrial actions, which have grounded academic activities across colleges of education and other tertiary institutions in Kaduna State, are primarily due to the non-implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONPCASS/CONTEDISS) as well as the 65 years retirement age for staff—both of which were agreed upon in several negotiations with the State Government.
As the umbrella body of all Colleges of Education students nationwide, NANCES is gravely concerned that our members in Kaduna State have once again been forced out of classrooms, further compounding the academic losses suffered in recent years. This disruption not only delays our education but also endangers our future and the collective development of the state.
We therefore call on His Excellency, the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, to swiftly grant the necessary approvals for the full implementation of the agreed salary structure and retirement age. This decisive action will pave the way for an immediate suspension of the strike and allow students to return to their academic activities without further delay.
NANCES strongly appeals for urgent dialogue, compromise, and action in the interest of justice, fairness, and the future of our students. The longer this crisis persists, the greater the damage to the aspirations of thousands of young people in Kaduna State.
