Children 6 years and below need between 10 to 13 hours of sleep every night for proper brain development. Now tell me why your child sleeps at 10pm and wakes up at 4am? That’s not even up to 7 hours!

You might not realize it, but you’re not helping that child. Lack of enough sleep is the reason some children are always cranky, tired, unfocused in class, and sometimes even dozing off in school. Teachers notice it a lot more than parents do.

A simple fix is to make it a norm for them to be in bed by 8 or 8:30pm and wake up around 6 to 6:30am. That gives them at least 10 solid hours of sleep. Their little brains and bodies need that rest to grow, retain what they learn, and stay healthy.

Building a bedtime routine doesn’t have to be complicated. No sugar, no fizzy drinks, and definitely no screens before bedtime because TV and tablets overstimulate them. A warm bath helps relax their body. Neat, comfortable nightwear and a well laid bed make them look forward to bedtime. Reading them a short story or playing soft, calming music also works like magic. Their room should be conducive, not too hot, not too cold, lights dimmed, and clutter free.

Try all these, and thank me later .
