30 Feared Killed as Suspected Terrorists Raid Kaduna Village, Family Loses Six Children

No fewer than 30 people, including women and children, have reportedly been killed after suspected terrorists attacked Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The deadly assault occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, while residents were asleep, according to a security source who spoke with our correspondent by telephone.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community at about 1:00 a.m., opening fire indiscriminately on sleeping residents before setting several houses ablaze.

Human rights activist Steven Kefas was among the first to raise the alarm on his verified page, initially reporting that at least 25 people had been killed in the attack.

He later updated the casualty figure, saying the death toll had risen to 30.

"Death toll now put at 30. Thirty women, children, and men were slaughtered while innocently asleep in the midnight attack on Naridon Village. One family lost six children. Some houses were also burnt by the Fulani terrorists," Kefas wrote.

A security source confirmed that the attack took place in the early hours of Monday, describing it as one of the latest violent incidents to hit communities in Southern Kaduna.

When contacted by LEADERSHIP, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shu'aibu (SAN), said he had received reports of the incident but was awaiting official confirmation from security agencies.

"I received a call over the attack and I am waiting for security agencies to confirm. For now, I can't confirm or deny the attack," the commissioner said.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while residents continued to mourn the victims and assess the destruction left in the wake of the attack.

Tale of Cedric and the Copper Coin

In the bustling village of Wilbark, where cobblestone streets crisscrossed between quaint houses, lived a man named Cedric. Known far and wide for his extraordinary stinginess, Cedric held his copper coins tighter than a miser hoards his gold. To him, every expense was an unnecessary extravagance, and he took pride in the bulging purse that hung from his belt, jingling with the sound of untouched money.

Cedric's frugality was legendary. He ate the bare minimum, often feasting on stale bread and cheese. He wore patched clothes and old shoes that clung to life by mere threads. His home, a small, dimly lit cottage on the edge of town, was devoid of any ornamentation or comfort. Cedric’s one and only indulgence was counting his coins every evening, a ritual he performed with a gleam in his eye.

Despite his wealth, Cedric refused to share with anyone, even in times of need. When the village's well dried up one hot summer, he denied the townsfolk his help, preferring to watch them struggle than part with a single coin. This cold-hearted behavior made him a solitary figure, avoided and whispered about behind his back.

One day, a mysterious traveler arrived in Wilbark. He was an elderly man with a long, silver beard and twinkling eyes that seemed to see more than the surface of things. The villagers welcomed him warmly, intrigued by his tales of distant lands and his seemingly endless wisdom. The traveler, however, took a particular interest in Cedric, observing him from a distance with a knowing smile.

As the days passed, the traveler began to spend more time near Cedric’s cottage. He noticed Cedric’s routine, how he meticulously counted his coins each night. One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, the traveler approached Cedric's doorstep and knocked gently.

Cedric, who rarely had visitors, opened the door with a scowl. "What do you want?" he grumbled, eyeing the stranger suspiciously.

The traveler bowed slightly and said, "Good evening, sir. I’ve heard tales of your remarkable thriftiness and thought you might appreciate a small game of chance."

Cedric's eyes narrowed. He was always wary of anything that might cost him, but curiosity got the better of him. "What sort of game?" he asked.

The traveler pulled out a single copper coin and held it up. "A simple coin toss," he explained. "If it lands on heads, I will give you a gold coin. If it lands on tails, you give me one of your copper coins. What do you say?"

Cedric's mind raced. The odds were even, but the potential gain was far greater than the loss. Greed overshadowed his caution, and he agreed to the game.

With a flick of his wrist, the traveler sent the coin spinning into the air. It glinted in the fading light before landing on Cedric’s palm. Heads. Cedric’s eyes widened with excitement as the traveler handed him a shiny gold coin.

"Let's play again," Cedric said eagerly.

The traveler smiled and nodded. The coin went up once more, and again it landed on heads. Cedric was beside himself with joy as he pocketed another gold coin.

They played several more rounds, and each time, Cedric's luck held. The traveler’s smile grew wider, but Cedric, blinded by his newfound wealth, didn’t notice the twinkle in the old man's eyes.

Eventually, the traveler suggested a final round. "Double or nothing," he proposed. "If it lands on heads, you keep all the gold coins I’ve given you. If it lands on tails, you give me all your copper coins."

Cedric hesitated. His greed and fear of loss waged a battle within him. But the thought of more gold outweighed his caution. He agreed.

The coin flew into the air, spinning in a blur of copper. It landed with a soft thud in Cedric's hand. He peeked at it, his heart pounding. Tails.

Cedric's face fell. He handed over his purse with trembling hands. The traveler took it with a gentle smile and turned to leave.

As he walked away, the traveler paused and looked back at Cedric. "Remember this, my friend," he said kindly. "True wealth is not measured by the coins you hoard but by the richness of your heart and the generosity of your spirit."

Cedric watched the traveler disappear into the twilight, the weight of his words sinking in. For the first time in his life, Cedric felt the emptiness of his riches. He had lost his fortune but gained a valuable lesson.

From that day forward, Cedric's life changed. He began to share his remaining wealth with the villagers, helping those in need and rebuilding the well. As he gave, he discovered a joy far greater than counting his coins. The villagers, in turn, embraced him with warmth and gratitude, and Cedric found himself surrounded by friends and happiness he had never known.

Cedric’s cottage, once dark and cold, became a place of light and laughter. And though his purse was lighter, his heart was full. Cedric had learned the true value of wealth, and it was a lesson he would carry with him for the rest of his days.
