How Parents Can Support Their Children to Read at Home (Regardless of Age or Class)

Reading is one of the most important skills a child can develop. It improves vocabulary, imagination, concentration, and academic performance. No matter a child’s age or class level, parents play a powerful role in building strong reading habits at home.

1. Create a Reading-Friendly Environment
Children are more likely to read when books are easily available. Parents can create a small reading corner at home with storybooks, textbooks, magazines, or even digital reading materials. A quiet, comfortable space encourages focus and enjoyment.

2. Set a Good Example
Children often copy what they see. When parents read newspapers, novels, or even online articles regularly, children understand that reading is valuable and enjoyable. Being a role model makes a big difference.

3. Establish a Daily Reading Routine
Setting aside 15–30 minutes each day for reading helps children develop consistency. This could be before bedtime or after homework. A routine turns reading into a natural habit rather than a forced task.

4. Read Together
For younger children, parents can read aloud and discuss pictures or characters. For older children, parents can ask questions about the story or topic to improve understanding. Shared reading time strengthens both learning and family bonding.

5. Encourage, Don’t Force
Support and gentle encouragement work better than pressure. Praise children for their efforts and progress. Let them choose books that interest them, whether it’s adventure, science, comics, or history.

6. Connect Reading to Real Life
Parents can relate stories to real-life experiences. For example, after reading about animals, they might visit a zoo or watch a documentary. This makes reading meaningful and exciting.

7. Limit Distractions
Reducing excessive screen time from television and mobile phones creates more opportunity for reading. Setting clear but balanced rules helps children focus better.

In Loving Memory of a Father

Exactly 365 days, on the lord's day the c**k crows never to sound like before, the angels descended to take home beyond a faithful, loving and caring father and grandfather.

A father’s love is quiet yet unwavering, a steady presence that shapes the very core of who we become. He was our guide, our protector, our greatest teacher—leading with kindness, strength, and wisdom.

Though he is no longer here, his love remains in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the warmth of his embrace that lingers in our hearts. His voice echoes in our memories, reminding us to be strong, to be kind, and to cherish each moment.

We miss him beyond words, but we find comfort in knowing that love never fades—it lives on in us, always.

But, our hope is in the resurrection (Job 14:7-9) which is promised in Jesus Christ.

Rest on till we meet at the feet of our saviour.
