PRESS RELEASED FROM COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, AKWANGA.

2026/2027 POST UTME SCREENING

This is to inform candidates who wish to join the Dual Mandate Three Years NCE and Two Years Degree that the 2026/2027 post UTME screening commences from Monday 24th August, 2026.

Candidates who sat for the 2026/2027 UTME JAMB and chose College of Education Akwanga, as their first choice and scored 100 points and above are to log into the College website: www.coeakwanga.edu.ng to create an account and generate invoice and pay the sum of Two-Thousand-Three-Hundred-and Twenty-Two-Naira Fifty Kobo (N2,322.50) including VAT through the Central Billing System (CBS).

Those Candidates who are interested to study in the College Dual Mandate but did not choose College as first choice can well do so and change their first institution of choice to College of Education Akwanga and follow the same procedures above.

Those interested to join the Dual Mandate of the College but not sit for the 2026/2027 UTME JAMB can also do so, following the procedures below:

1. Generate a profile code (Eg NIN Space NIN number to send to 55019 or 66019)

2. Obtained O-level Verification Code from the Examination Body (N1,500 for a sitting and N2,000 for 2 sittings) (e.g. WAEC SSCE and NECO SSCE to be presented at COE/IPRC/CBT Centre to update their profile and verification code.

3. Application registration fee - N 3,500 CBT Centre Registration charges - N 700, The ePayment shall be made on the JAMB Registration Portal at the College or the CBT/PRC/IPRC.

4. Complete the required template form and register at any CBT/PRC or IPRC.

5. Post UTME registration of Two-thousand-Three-hundred-and Twenty-Two-naira Fifty Kobo (N2,322.50) including vat through the central billing system (CBS).

Candidates are to print out the BIO-DATA FORM attached with the photocopies of their credentials and proceed to the Admission Office of the College for screening.

COE Akwanga Home Economics Students Showcase Creativity at Departmental Exhibition.

The Department of Home Economics, College of Education, Akwanga, has held a departmental students’ exhibition as part of activities marking the completion of three years of rigorous academic and practical training by NCE graduating students.

Declaring the exhibition open, the Provost of the College, Dr. Barnabas Nuhu Barau Best, commended the Head of Department, lecturers, technical staff and students for their commitment, ingenuity and collective efforts towards the successful staging of the exhibition. He described their contributions as highly commendable and appreciated the practical orientation demonstrated by the students.

Dr. Barau Best charged the students to perceive the exhibition beyond its conventional academic requirement, urging them to leverage the platform for talent discovery, confidence building, skills development and economic empowerment. He noted that the contemporary labour market increasingly demands graduates who are innovative, creative, entrepreneurial and equipped with problem-solving competencies.

The Provost further advocated a paradigm shift from overdependence on white-collar employment to entrepreneurship, stressing that the competencies acquired through Home Economics could be translated into viable enterprises in fashion design, catering, baking, textile production, interior decoration, crafts and other allied creative industries.

He reiterated the institution’s commitment to creating an enabling ecosystem for teaching, learning, skills acquisition, innovation and entrepreneurship, assuring that the College would continue to support programmes designed to equip students with market-relevant competencies and prepare them for the realities of the modern economy.

Dr. Barau Best also used the occasion to announce progress on the College’s anticipated *Dual Mandate, which will enable the institution to run degree programmes and award degree certificates alongside its existing NCE programmes. He disclosed that the enabling Bill had passed its third reading and was awaiting gubernatorial assent and legislative formalities. According to him, the degree programme is expected to commence around October/November, while the Post-UTME screening exercise is expected to commence, subject to final arrangements, in the coming week.

Earlier, the Head of Department, Home Economics, Mrs. Agnes Ogwuche, expressed appreciation to the College Management for its sustained support, approvals and encouragement towards the department’s academic and practical initiatives.

According to her, the exhibition featured practical demonstrations and creative works produced by approximately 50 NCE students, showcasing competencies acquired across clothing and textiles, catering, fashion design, interior decoration, household management, crafts and other areas of Home Economics practice.

The HOD, however, highlighted critical infrastructural and instructional challenges requiring Management’s intervention, particularly the need for a functional Food Laboratory and the refurbishment, equipping and upgrading of the Clothing and Textiles Laboratories. She stressed that addressing these gaps would further enhance the quality of practical instruction, skills acquisition and experiential learning within the department.

In her remarks, the Dean, School of Vocational and Technical Education, Dr. Talatu Titus Umbugadu, appreciated guests, parents and guardians for honouring the occasion. She particularly commended parents for their sacrifices, resilience and continued encouragement of the students throughout their academic journey, while wishing participants safe return to their respective destinations.

The event climaxed with an impressive exhibition of students’ creative works, presentation of certificates to outstanding students and vibrant cultural displays that captivated the audience, underscoring the department’s emphasis on practical education, creativity, self-reliance and entrepreneurial development.

Unique Open University Commissions Study Centre at College of Education, Akwanga

The Management of Unique Open University (UOU) has officially commissioned its study centre at the College of Education, Akwanga (COEA), marking a significant milestone in expanding access to flexible, technology-driven higher education in the area.

The newly established centre is designed to provide prospective and existing learners with convenient access to online academic programmes, bringing university education closer to students and working-class professionals who require flexible learning opportunities. Unique Open University, headquartered in Ojo, Lagos State, operates through study centres across Nigeria.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Provost of the College of Education, Akwanga, Dr. Barnabas Nuhu Barau Best, represented by the Deputy Provost, Administration, Dr. Amina Yusuf Dogara, conveyed the Provost’s warm regards and reaffirmed the College Management’s readiness to explore a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the university at the appropriate time.
She assured the university and its students of a conducive institutional environment, noting that students of the UOU study centre could utilise selected College facilities within approved limits. She further charged them to maintain discipline, shun all forms of social vices and cultivate cordial relationships with students and members of the College community.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Unique Open University, Prof. Christopher Imonulen, represented by the Registrar, Dr. Muhammed Kamaluddeen Lawan, expressed appreciation to the College Management for providing the enabling environment for the commencement of the university’s academic operations in Akwanga.

Dr. Lawan, while conveying the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to academic excellence, described the Akwanga study centre as more than a conventional learning facility, stressing that it is envisioned as a hub of opportunity, knowledge acquisition, innovation and transformation. He also expressed the university’s interest in formalising an MoU with the College to strengthen institutional collaboration and expand opportunities for learners.

The Centre Coordinator, Hon. Jacob Ephraim Dzingina, disclosed that admission into the university’s programmes is currently ongoing, with prospective students able to access programmes across several faculties.

COE Akwanga Hosts Environment Commissioner on Oversight and ACReSAL Inspection Tour

The Provost of the College of Education, Akwanga, Dr. Barnabas Nuhu Barau Best, has received the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Mrs. Margaret Itake Elayo (Princess), during an official oversight and environmental inspection visit to the institution.

The Commissioner explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the environmental conditions within the College, identifying potential environmental and security-related challenges, and evaluating the sustainability of existing interventions. She noted that the College is among beneficiaries of the Nasarawa State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme, particularly its institutional-strengthening component, which supports ICT/GIS applications, environmental and climate-related research, data generation and capacity development.

According to her, the inspection was also designed to engage the College Management on environmental sustainability, assess ongoing interventions, identify emerging needs, and determine areas where the Ministry and ACReSAL could provide additional technical support. The Commissioner further congratulated Dr. Best on his substantive appointment as Provost, describing the appointment as meritorious, while enthusiastically chanting, “ACReSAL, Dr. Best.!!!”

Responding, Dr. Best expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the Ministry’s continued interest in the College and for interventions already delivered through the programme. He disclosed that upon assumption of office, he inspected the facilities and was informed by the Head of the Department of Geography that the supplied equipment remained intact, while Management was working towards providing adequate security and a conducive environment for their effective utilisation. He, however, identified the Automatic Weather Station as a critical area requiring attention.

The Provost subsequently led the Commissioner and her team on an inspection tour of the designated site where the weather station and related equipment are expected to be installed, reaffirming the College’s commitment to strengthening environmental management, climate resilience and the effective utilisation of ACReSAL- supported interventions.

Together with the Commissioner is the Nasarawa State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Napoleon Gyobe Elias.

The Department of Theatre Arts, College of Education, Akwanga, has organised a creative exhibition aimed at assessing students’ competencies, nurturing innovation and strengthening the culture of self-reliance among graduating and prospective students. The exhibition, held at the Theatre Arts Auditorium, was themed “Empowering Minds Through Creative and Self-Reliance.”

The event featured a special lecture by the Director of Strategic Communication to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Mr. Yakubu Lamai, an accomplished information and theatre arts practitioner. Lamai provided an industry-focused exposition on the nexus between Theatre Arts, entrepreneurship and employability, highlighting numerous career opportunities embedded within the film and creative production ecosystem.
Interacting with the students, he underscored the vast economic potential of the creative industry and further motivated participants through spontaneous monetary rewards for correct responses to questions arising from his presentation.

The exhibition showcased an impressive spectrum of students’ creative competencies, including stage performance, tie-and-dye, costume design, disc jockeying and photography. The event attracted the Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences; Dean, Student Affairs; Heads of Departments; political office holders and other dignitaries, underscoring the institution’s commitment to creativity, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and graduate self-reliance.

Nunku Ward APC Stakeholders Felicitate COE Akwanga Registrar, Provost

Stakeholders from Nunku District have paid separate courtesy visits to the Registrar of the College of Education, Akwanga, Mrs. Rhoda Kayinu Adamu, and the Provost, Dr. Barnabas Nuhu Barau Best, to felicitate with them on their recent appointments and reaffirm their solidarity and support for all the APC candidates in the forthcoming election come 2027 and the institution’s leadership.

Receiving the delegation, Mrs. Rhoda Kayinu Adamu expressed appreciation for the gesture of goodwill, describing the visit as a reflection of the strong bond between her and the people of Nunku District. She solicited their continued prayers and support, assuring them that her office remains open to constructive engagement and collaboration.

The stakeholders subsequently visited the Provost, Dr. Barnabas Nuhu Barau Best, not only to congratulate him on his emergence as the substantive Provost, but also to appreciate his confidence in appointing their daughter as Registrar. Delivering their mission statement, the APC Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Danjuma Joel, assured the Provost of their total readiness to support all the APC Candidates from top to bottom.

In his response, Dr. Best commended the delegation and described Mrs. Adamu’s appointment was timely and meritorious, while acknowledging the support and contributions of her husband, Dr. Kayinu, and Hon. Kwanta Yakubu to his own emergence as Provost.

The Provost also acknowledged the overarching support of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, in facilitating the administration’s recent appointments. While recognising the diversity of political interests within the community, Dr. Best appreciate the stakeholders unflinching support for all the APC candidates and by uniting behind the developmental agenda particularly by supporting Engr. A. A. Sule in his aspiration for the Senate, Wadada for Senate, and Tinubu for President, come 2027.

COE Akwanga Provost Pays Courtesy Visit to Sarkin Gudi, Reaffirms Commitment to Traditional Institutions

The Provost of the College of Education, Akwanga, Dr. Best Barau Nuhu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Sarkin Gudi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Yusuf Sule Bawa, at his palace in Gudi, Nasarawa State.

The visit, which was marked by cultural reverence, goodwill and mutual respect, underscored the Provost’s recognition of the strategic role of traditional institutions in fostering peace, unity, social cohesion and sustainable community development.

HRH Alhaji Yusuf Sule Bawa, the revered traditional ruler of Gudi, is the father of Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State.

During the courtesy engagement, Dr. Best Barau Nuhu paid homage to the monarch and exchanged goodwill with the traditional institution, while emphasising the importance of maintaining cordial relationships between educational institutions, traditional authorities and the communities they serve.

The Provost expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality accorded him by the Sarkin Gudi, noting that traditional rulers remain indispensable stakeholders in preserving cultural heritage, promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening communal values.

He further reiterated his commitment to cultivating meaningful partnerships with traditional institutions and community leaders, particularly in areas capable of advancing education, human capital development and the overall wellbeing of society.

The visit is also seen as part of the College leadership’s broader engagement with key stakeholders, aimed at deepening institutional relationships and promoting an atmosphere of collaboration, mutual understanding and shared responsibility for community development.

The memorable encounter culminated in an atmosphere of respect, wisdom, goodwill and shared commitment to the peace, progress and development of Nasarawa State.
