Making Suggestions in English.

👉 When we want to suggest something to someone, we can use different expressions depending on how polite or casual we want to sound.

✅ Common expressions for suggestions:

How about + verb-ing … ?
Example: How about going to the cinema tonight?

Why don’t we + base verb … ?
Example: Why don’t we try that new restaurant?

Let’s + base verb …
Example: Let’s study together after class.

We could + base verb …
Example: We could visit your aunt tomorrow.

I suggest/recommend + verb-ing …
Example: I suggest reading this book for practice.

How to Spot WRONG Answers!

If you’re finding the TOEFL reading section tricky, especially with multiple choice questions, here are some key things I’ve learned that can help:

1️⃣ Exact words ≠ correct meaning
Sometimes an answer copies words straight from the passage but changes the meaning. Don’t fall for it!

2️⃣ Be careful with words like “always” or “never”
Extreme terms are usually a red flag — most passages are more balanced or cautious in their claims.

3️⃣ Pay attention to small words
Words like usually, rarely, slightly, or significantly may seem minor but totally change the meaning.

4️⃣ Don’t trust mixed-up details
Some wrong choices mash together two true facts in a misleading way. If they weren’t connected in the passage, don’t connect them in your answer.

5️⃣ Irrelevant info = wrong answer
If it sounds smart but wasn’t even mentioned in the passage, it’s probably there to distract you.

6️⃣ Double-check numbers
If the passage says “over a dozen” and the option says “fewer than 10,” that’s a no-go.

7️⃣ Watch for “EXCEPT” and “NOT”
These reverse the logic of the question. You’re looking for the one thing the passage doesn’t say don’t rush!

💡 Tip: Try writing your own “tricky” answer choices when practicing. It really helps you think like a test writer and avoid their traps!
