WHEN AGE IS MORE THAN A NUMBER

A young man once told me in counselling, "Pastor, age is just a number." He was set to marry a lady much older than him. I tried to help him see the real issues beyond age, but he would not listen. He believed love alone was enough.

Friend, age is never just a number in marriage. It represents the assets a person has become and the liabilities and baggage they have gathered over time (Psalm 90:12). Until you understand what age truly carries, you may make costly mistakes in your choice of a life partner (Proverbs 14:12).

The real question is not whether you should marry someone older or younger. The question is whether you understand the implications and demands of that choice (Ecclesiastes 10:15). Age may not always bring maturity, but it always brings mindsets, ideologies, and attitudes that can either build or break a marriage (1 Samuel 25:25).

Divine leading to marry an older person is not enough. You must situate that leading in wisdom and reality (Job 32:8). Who is this person? How submissive and sensitive are they to leadership and seniority? What baggage and what assets have they gathered? Your answers will determine your future (Proverbs 23:7).

Marrying a lady older than you as a young man demands unusual internal security and strong leadership (Proverbs 31:23). Everyone submits to true leadership regardless of age or status. You must be a man of wisdom, direction, and large-heartedness, not just a husband but a father figure who is bigger in stature, not in age (Psalm 45:10-11).

A proud or feminist woman cannot thrive marrying a younger man (Proverbs 25:24). Like Rebekah, every woman must come down from her high horse to honour the place of her husband regardless of her age or accomplishments (Genesis 24:64). Only when that understanding exists does age truly become just a number.

FROM MISTAKES TO MASTERY

An executive at IBM once made a mistake that cost the company $600,000. Thinking he would be fired, he tendered his resignation to Thomas Watson Sr., the founder of IBM. Watson replied, "We just spent $600,000 educating you. If I fire you, someone else will reap the benefits of your lessons." He retained him, and that man became one of IBM's most valuable leaders.

Friend, you can move from mistakes to mastery. Truly, nobody is perfect. Only God is (Matthew 5:48). We have all made mistakes at one time or another. If anyone tells you he has never made a mistake, he is either lying or he has forgotten. Mistakes are part of how we learn and grow. They are part of the process of gaining mastery in life.

Remember our childhood days? The eraser was our constant companion. We cleaned up our errors as we tried to write, draw, or answer questions, but we never gave up. It was by rising from those mistakes and improving daily that we eventually mastered those subjects (Micah 7:8).

What life subjects are you mastering right now? The person who attempts nothing may not make mistakes, but he is already making a mistake. Never make the mistake of doing nothing because you are afraid of making mistakes (Matthew 25:25). How you handle your mistakes is what really matters. See them as learning experiences.

Though mistakes can be painful, they can become gainful if you learn to turn them around (Psalms 126:1-6). When you learn from your mistakes, you get better at life and better at your craft. It also equips you to guide and mentor those coming after you. That very thing you are ashamed of may be the very tool God wants to use to help others (1 Timothy 1:15-16).

Some mistakes are costly and can define a man forever. Always pray that God will not let you make such mistakes (Matthew 6:13). Listen to the nudging of the Holy Spirit. Don't discard the counsel of elders. Stay humble. Avoid presumption. Remember, when you think you can never be wrong, you are already wrong (Matthew 26:33-35).

Just when you think you have had enough of God, He tells you He is just starting with you. There is always more in God for those who desire it. As you enter this new month and the final quarter of 2026, may you enter into greater dimensions in God and destiny (John 1:50-51). It is your season of quantum leap and your month of Open Heavens. Happy New Month!

THE COST OF COURAGE

A pastor was led by God to approach the landlord beside his church and ask him to sell his building to the church. The landlord laughed at the strange request and became angry. The pastor did not argue; he simply left quietly. Weeks later, the same landlord called him and said, "I have thought about your request. How much will you pay?" The church got the building at the cost of courage.

Friend, you need courage to fulfil your destiny (Joshua 1:7). Anything meaningful you desire in life will demand courage. Many people are stuck because they refuse to act courageously. You either live with courage or you die small. The world favours the brave, not just the smart (Psalm 78:9-10).

Courage is the bridge between what God has made available to you and what becomes possible in your life (Mark 9:23, 10:17). It is courage that turns vision into reality. It is courage that ushers you into new realms of possibilities. Courage is the true price of a great destiny (1 Samuel 17:32-58).

When you act courageously, unseen forces begin to work in your favour (Hebrews 1:14). For us as believers, we know those forces. It is the presence and power of God. It is the ministry of angels. When you refuse to act boldly, those forces remain dormant. We activate divine favour by acting courageously (Esther 2:15).

God is not asking if you can do the impossible. He is only asking if you will believe Him enough to take a bold step (Ephesians 3:20). God needs your mouth to speak through, your legs to walk through, and your steps to reveal His power and glory. Will you give God what He needs to move you into His purpose for your life (Esther 4:14-16)?

You need to act courageously (2 Kings 7:1-11). When the devil says, "What if you get a no?" Ask him, "What if I get a yes?" Sometimes, you just need to make that bold request and let God touch hearts. You need to step on water as instructed (Matthew 14:28-30). A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the courageous only die once.

THE WISDOM OF SILENCE

A respected father of faith once shared his experience in a gathering. While everyone was talking passionately, he simply kept quiet, watching and taking notes. Later, his wife asked him, "Why didn't you say anything? You know more than all of them." He replied with wisdom, "Let them keep talking while I am listening and learning." He understood the wisdom of silence.

Friend, you must learn the wisdom of silence (Proverbs 10:8, 14). Speaking up has helped many people become successful in life, but not knowing when to keep quiet has put even more people in trouble. It is not just about speaking, but knowing when to speak and when not to. It takes more discipline and restraint to stay silent (James 1:26).

Silence has many advantages. It hides your intentions until they become reality. It also hides your folly from those who will not forgive your mistakes (Proverbs 17:28). Silence helps you to listen and to learn. It will deliver you from the wrong use of your mouth, which can land you in trouble if you don't use it correctly (Proverbs 15:4).

Just as we have many schools of public speaking, we also need schools of private hearing (1 Samuel 3:1-11). The quality of your speech is often determined by the quality of your silence. The more you learn to listen, the better you will speak. Like Jesus, God needs to awaken your ears to hear before you can have the tongue of the learned (Isaiah 50:4-5).

In the school of faith, silence is as important as speaking (Luke 1:18-20). We speak to manifest spiritual possibilities, but many miracles have also been aborted by wrong speaking. There are no casual words in the realm of the spirit. That is why the angel made Zachariah deaf and dumb. Refuse the urge to always talk (Proverbs 21:23).

Truly, the man who has learned to control his tongue is more powerful than a good speaker (James 3:2). It is what you say that puts you in trouble, not what you refuse to say. You need both trained ears and a trained mouth. You need silence to learn, avoid battles, preserve divine miracles, and hear from God (Habakkuk 2:20). Learn the wisdom of silence today.
