On integrating technology into teaching and learning.
As teachers have already expressed concern about the cognitive offloading effect, where over-reliance on technology shortcuts can impair students’ memory, comprehension, and critical thinking, some experts think the best way to integrate tech into the classroom is for edtech companies to develop tools that focus on training and support for educators.
The U.S. Department of Education, meanwhile, published a report that advocates for the development of “inspectable, explainable, overridable AI” that is used to supplement rather than replace educators; and for AI developers to inform and involve educators, always keeping humans in the loop, and focus on equity, trust, and safety of these tools.
What do you think?

Thanks to Ohmyclassroom for this most interesting post!
Researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) fitted 36 university students with EEG caps containing 256 electrodes and asked them to copy words in two ways: by hand with a digital pen, and by typing on a keyboard. The difference was striking.
When students wrote by hand, their brains lit up across multiple regions — particularly in theta and alpha frequency bands tied to memory formation, sensory processing, attention, and learning. When they typed the identical words, those same areas went nearly silent.
Lead researchers Audrey van der Meer and Ruud van der Weel point to the same culprit: handwriting demands fine motor control, sensory feedback from the pen, and visual-motor coordination. Typing bypasses all of that. Your brain simply doesn't have to work as hard.

Here's what this means for classrooms. As schools rush to digitize, this research offers a counterargument worth taking seriously. Handwriting may not be obsolete — it may actually be one of the most powerful tools we have for building stronger neural networks and deeper learning. In a world increasingly defined by screens, the pen still has something to teach us.
