READ UP IF YOU HAVE TEENAGERS.
The transition from childhood to adulthood is oftentimes both complicating and overwhelming.
It is a period when the teenager get irritated for no reason; suddenly feeling down without knowing why, going from sadness to anger to joy in a matter of minutes.
All of these make them feel as though they are losing their grip; and this is termed as an emotional rollercoaster.
Many parents find their teenagers' behavior quite taxing.
It can be really baffling, stressful and sometimes, hurtful but it does not mean anything serious rather, it is a phase; a natural process of becoming an adult.
These behaviours are termed as an essential part of growth.
The teenage years is an obscure season - surges of hormones, combined with body changes, pressures from friends and peer groups, trying to find their identity, self discovery and developing a sense of independence; often make it a confusing period.
They can be very emotional rather than being logical and that is normal.
While growing up, I experienced emotional imbalance and it was quite unpleasant and also frightening.
As parents, coupled with other pressures of life - such as, other kids, work, relationships, family commitments, etc can make you feel as though your teenage kid is going to push you over the edge.
What should you do then?
Here are some tips to help you help your moody teenage child/ward:
*Set boundaries and stick to them. That is, know when to speak and react. Even though they may object to these but, they are a sign that you care about them.
*Be a good listener and try not to interrupt.
*Allow them to learn from their own mistakes as long as they are safe.
*Do not bottle-up your concerns; show it and let them know they can trust you.
*Allow them have their privacy.
