🚨 TO EVERYONE PLANNING TO GO TO UNIVERSITY/POLYTECHNIC AFTER JAMB, PLEASE READ THIS TO THE END.
I am about to say something that many people may disagree with, but I genuinely need you to understand what I mean.
If you have written JAMB, you are waiting for admission, or you are planning to enter a higher institution soon, this message is for YOU.
And before you misunderstand me, let me say this clearly:
I AM NOT AGAINST EDUCATION.
But I strongly believe that going to school without having a plan for your financial survival can put you in a very difficult situation.
A lot of young people are going to school simply because their parents told them to.
Some are going because their uncle said, “Go to school.”
Some because their elder sister said, “You need to get a degree.”
Some don't even know what they want to do with their lives. They just know that after secondary school, the next step is supposed to be university or polytechnic.
But here is my question:
WHAT ARE YOU TAKING WITH YOU?
Do you have a skill?
Do you have something you can use to make money?
Do you have a digital skill?
Do you have a hands-on skill?
Do you have a business?
Do you have anything that can generate income for you?
Because if you enter higher institution with absolutely nothing apart from your school fees and the hope that somebody will always send you money, you may eventually understand what I am talking about.
Especially if you come from a family where your parents are already struggling.
Especially if you have younger siblings your parents are also responsible for.
Especially if your parents are not financially comfortable.
Please, don't just prepare academically.
PREPARE FINANCIALLY.
Before you enter school, learn something.
Learn a skill.
Learn something valuable.
Learn something people are willing to pay you for.
It could be a digital skill.
It could be a physical skill.
It could be a technical skill.
It could be a creative skill.
It could be anything legitimate that can put money in your hands.
Because when you eventually enter school and money becomes a problem, you will realize that having a skill is not just about “making money.”
Sometimes, having a skill is about SURVIVAL.
I am telling you this as someone who has been in the system.
I am telling you this as someone who has seen things.
I am telling you this as someone who understands what it feels like to navigate school and life at the same time.
I had something that sustained me while I was in school.
I won't necessarily share what it was here because that isn't the point of this post.
The point is:
YOU ALSO NEED TO FIND YOUR OWN THING.
Some people look at someone in school and wonder:
“Where is this person getting money from?”
“Who is sponsoring this person?”
“How is this person surviving?”
Sometimes, it isn't their course.
Sometimes, it isn't their parents.
Sometimes, there are things happening behind the scenes that you don't know about.
For me, there were other things I was doing that helped me financially.
So when you see someone surviving in school, don't automatically assume that their parents are providing everything.
And please, DON'T BUILD YOUR ENTIRE LIFE AROUND DEPENDING ON PEOPLE.
Someone may tell you:
“I will take care of you.”
“I will always send you money.”
“I will train you.”
“I will support you.”
That's good if it happens.
But don't make it your only plan.
Because circumstances change.
People change.
Money finishes.
Responsibilities increase.
And sometimes, the person you thought would always be there simply won't be able to help anymore.
So develop yourself.
Build yourself.
Learn something.
Become useful.
Create a backup plan.
And most importantly, change your mindset.
SCHOOL IS NOT THE ONLY PATH TO SUCCESS.
Let me repeat that.
SCHOOL IS NOT THE ONLY PATH TO SUCCESS.
Education is valuable. Your degree can be valuable. Your academic knowledge can open doors.
But education alone does not automatically guarantee financial success.
You need other things too.
Skills.
Experience.
Relationships.
Problem-solving ability.
Financial intelligence.
Communication.
Creativity.
Discipline.
And the ability to recognize opportunities.
This is actually one of the reasons I wrote my book, GENIUSTHINKING.
I wrote it to challenge the way young people think about school, money, success, personal development and life.
It contains ideas and stories designed to make you question some of the things you have been taught and start looking at life from a broader perspective.
If you are a student or an aspiring student, I genuinely believe you should read it.
The book is currently available for ₦3,500.
If you want it, simply DM me “GENIUSTHINKING” or comment “SEND LINK” and I'll send you the link.
Don't look at ₦3,500 as just the price of a book.
Look at it as an investment in your mindset.
Because sometimes, the biggest thing holding a young person back isn't lack of opportunity.
It's lack of perspective.
And that's what I want to help you develop.
Now, one more thing.
I'm going to start making more videos from now on.
But I need you to understand something about engagement.
Some of you think that whenever you like, comment or share my posts, I'm automatically making money from Facebook.
NO.
I'm currently on restriction, and I'm not earning money from these posts the way some of you assume.
So when you comment, you're not “making me money.”
When you like, you're not “giving me money.”
When you share, you're not putting money directly into my account.
What your engagement does is give me the motivation to continue creating.
It tells me:
“People are actually listening.”
“People are learning.”
“People want more.”
So please, when I post something valuable, don't just scroll past it.
Read it.
Think about it.
Comment.
Share it with someone who needs it.
Ask questions.
Let's build a community where young people actually learn things that can help them navigate life.
And finally, there's another topic I want to talk about next:
THE KIND OF FRIENDS YOU KEEP CAN DETERMINE THE DIRECTION OF YOUR LIFE.
Your friends can influence your mindset.
Your habits.
Your decisions.
Your opportunities.
And ultimately, your results.
But that's a conversation for the next post.
For now, if you are preparing to enter higher institution:
DON'T JUST PREPARE TO ENTER SCHOOL.
Prepare to survive.
Prepare to learn.
Prepare to grow.
Prepare to make money.
Prepare to become independent.
And prepare for life beyond the classroom.
