Sandra had two sisters, charity who was the eldest girl and Grace who was her younger sister. She also had a big brother, Steve who was the first child of the family. Ruth was eleven years old when her father brought his niece, Janet to live with them. Janet's father was the elder brother of Sandra's father and had lost his job. The man was finding it difficult to care for his children. His three brothers decided to take a child each to help him train.
