On 14th August 2025, the DLI Nurudeen Alao Auditorium, University of Lagos, lit up with brilliance as Professor Andrew Haruna, Secretary-General of CVCNU, was invested as the 11th President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL).

The Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) visited the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) in Abuja as part of efforts to boost collaboration in Nigeria’s education sector.
Key areas of partnership discussed are;
• Research & Knowledge Exchange
• Capacity-Building for Educators
• Digitalization & e-Learning
• Promoting Indigenous Languages & Culture
• Advocacy for Education Reform & Funding
Prof. Andrew Haruna, Secretary-General of CVCNU, emphasized the need for joint initiatives to improve curriculum, policy, and research in line with national and global standards.
Prof. Salisu Shehu, Executive Secretary of NERDC, reaffirmed the Council’s readiness to partner with CVCNU to deliver inclusive, quality learning outcomes.

The CVCNU delegation was warmly welcomed by Bingham University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Ayuba Kuje.
Key moments:
• Discussions on Erasmus programme collaborations
• Danubius International University proposes partnership via the CVCNU Training Institute
• Bingham University celebrates 20 years of academic excellence with 15 faculties and over 100 programmes
The Secretary-General praised Bingham as a beacon of integrity and innovation in Nigerian higher education.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to deeper collaboration.

A visit to the office of the Director General and CEO of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Lady Obiageli Amadiobi. The Secretary-General, Professor Andrew Haruna, reaffirmed CVCNU’s commitment to a strategic partnership.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration to promote intellectual property management, build capacity for innovation-driven research, support indigenous technological solutions, enhance innovation hubs on campuses, advocate for supportive national policies, and foster stronger university–industry linkages, all aimed at aligning academic research with Nigeria’s development goals.

The CVCNU delegation led by Prof. Andrew Haruna paid a courtesy visit to the Hon. Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad to strengthen partnerships. Discussions covered curriculum review, CCMAS, TVET, data, girls’ education, STEM, and more.
The Ministry of Education remains committed to standardisation and ensuring compliance with industry-relevant standards across all levels of the Nigerian education system.

As part of our collaborative efforts with member institutions, the CVCNU team, led by the Secretary-General, paid a courtesy visit to Miva Open University, Abuja.
We received a warm welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tayo Arulogun, and his esteemed team. The visit featured engaging and insightful discussions on the impact of open and distance learning in Nigeria’s higher education system, as well as opportunities for greater collaboration among Nigerian universities and other educational stakeholders.

The CVCNU delegation, led by our Secretary-General Professor Andrew Haruna, paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, at the Force Headquarters Abuja.
Discussions focused on deepening collaboration between Nigerian universities and the Nigeria Police Force in areas such as campus security, research, forensic science, and civic education.
The IG expressed strong support for a University–Police Liaison Committee and tasked the DIG Training & Development - DIG Frank Mba to begin implementation steps.
Together, we are building bridges between academia and law enforcement for a safer, more secure Nigeria.

CVCNU Visits Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK)
A delegation from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), led by Secretary-General Professor Andrew Haruna, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, and her leadership team.
The visit commenced with a compelling trailer video showcasing the Vice-Chancellor’s remarkable achievements in her first year in office — a year marked by:
• Digital transformation
• Curriculum reform
• CBT system deployment, significantly boosting internally generated revenue (IGR)
• International partnerships, including with Lincoln University, Malaysia
• Strengthened community-university relations
In her welcome remarks, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the delegation for their visit and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness by integrating innovative practices aligned with strategic educational policies.
Delivering his goodwill message, Professor Andrew Haruna praised NSUK’s visionary leadership and its transformative academic culture, noting the institution’s emergence as a model of gender-inclusive governance, resilience, and innovation in Nigeria’s higher education space.
The visit concluded with a rooftop tour of the university’s Senate Building , offering a panoramic view that symbolically captured NSUK’s architectural ambience and institutional growth.

The Secretary-General of CVCNU, Prof. Andrew Haruna, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Prof. Carl Adams, Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University Abuja.
The visit highlighted opportunities for collaboration, innovation in AI, and the future of higher education.
Prof. Adams shared ongoing partnerships with institutions like the University of Abuja and emphasized strategic growth through technology and research.
The team toured the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, including AI labs, a modern library, and medical laboratories.
