SKILL UP ACADEMY

Motto: Creating wealth and opportunity through skill acquisition, training and retraining.

INTRODUCTION

Nigerians and indeed women have come to realize that skill acquisition is very important in the life of every human being. Thanks to skill acquisition, technicians now earn more than some university graduates. The reason is not far-fetched. Technicians acquire more in practical skills than in theory. Training presents a prime opportunity to expand the knowledge base of women, especially the in young girls. Training and development provide benefits that make the cost and time worthwhile investment.

Skill acquisition provides a platform whereby, an individual is trained in a particular task or function and becomes proficient in it. With growing unemployment rate among the Nigerian population, the Nigerian Professional Working Women Organisation is more than ever before, committed to job creation especially for Nigerian women through skill acquisition programme called Skill Up Academy. Skill acquisition can help women contribute positively to the nation’s economy.

We are aware that there are many unemployed graduates in the country. This is partly is as a result of our system of education that lay more emphasis on theory rather than practicals. It is evident that the highest number of unemployed in the country, is the youth. It has been identified that the major causes of the unemployment among these vibrant youth, is the lack of backup skill, to what they learnt in school.

WHY SKILL ACQUISITION?

Skill training and acquisition, are necessary if one is to survive in a country where ordinary certificate is given more recognition than skill acquisition for everyone. Skills acquisition can be a way out of poverty for many women.
