Don't let the habit break.

One of the changes during a long holiday is that children gradually stop reading.

The good news is that it doesn't take much to keep it alive.

Ten minutes a day is enough. Let your child choose the book. Read together sometimes. Talk about the story instead of turning it into another assignment.

The goal isn't to recreate school at home.

It's to make sure a good habit doesn't have to be built all over again when school resumes.

The earliest English form appeared in the 1500s as “Use makes perfect.” Back then, use didn't simply mean to use something — it meant habit, repeated exercise or regular practice. As English evolved, practice gradually replaced use, giving us the expression we know today.

Its meaning, however, hasn't changed: skill is built through consistent effort, not talent alone.

Whether you're learning a musical instrument, improving at a sport, solving maths problems or speaking a new language, every repetition teaches you something the previous attempt didn't.

When you think about your child’s primary school years, what matters most?

Academic results matter, of course. But they are only part of the picture.

Years 1 through 6 are also when children begin to develop the confidence to speak up, the curiosity to ask questions, the ability to think critically, and the social skills to learn with others.

Academic excellence and all-round development should grow together. The Primary programme is designed to help children build strong foundations in their learning while developing the character, confidence and thinking skills they will carry far beyond the classroom.

We had a front-row seat to it all — the first days, the quiet breakthroughs, the moments they found their confidence, and the joy of watching everything finally come together.

Three weeks on, we’re still looking back and feeling so proud. Congratulations to our Lokogoma graduates. Once part of this family, always part of it. ❤️

We watched every one of these moments unfold — the nerves, the growth, the little wins that felt small at the time but mean so much in hindsight.

Three weeks later, we’re still celebrating our Kubwa graduates. Congratulations to every one of you. This will always be one of your homes. ❤️

The early bird catches the worm.

We often use this saying to encourage someone to get an early start, but what does it actually mean?

The saying is more than 400 years old. It was being recorded in English by the early 1600s, and by 1670 it appeared in John Ray's collection of English proverbs as “The early bird catcheth the worm.”

To put that in perspective, this was the world of quill-and-ink writing and early printed books.

The expression carries a simple idea: being early or prepared can give you an advantage.

It doesn't literally have to involve birds or worms. It could be getting ahead on an assignment, preparing for an important meeting, or simply tackling something before it becomes urgent.

Sometimes, a little preparation really does pay off.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate young people and the possibilities that come with being willing to learn.

The world they will inherit will not look exactly like the one we know today. That makes what they learn now — and, perhaps more importantly, how they learn to think about what they encounter — incredibly important.

At Primegate International Academy, we believe education should prepare young people for more than the next examination. It should give them the confidence to ask questions, make sense of the world around them, and keep growing as that world changes.

The future is influenced by what, why, and where they choose to learn today.
