SUMMARY REPORT ON UNIDO-NQIP INTERVENTION IN INTER-LABORATORY COMPARISON IN NIGERIA | NQI Project Nigeria 11/10/2018

UNIDO-NQIP has supported IPAN’s first inter-laboratory comparison scheme with a timely intervention. Proficiency Testing and Inter-Laboratory testing, or PT/ILC, as it is often known, is mandatory under AFRAC and ILAC requirements. Prior to the establishment of ILC, laboratories had to participate in Proficiency Testing, PTs, organised by foreign scheme providers at a high cost, which few labs can afford.
Local ILC/PT providers translate to ease of reach, locality and low cost of participation.

UNIDO Supports Pilot Trial of Integrated Export Control Plan on Dried Beans

The pilot trial consisted of a series of activities to review the processes of the recently validated Integrated Export Control Plan. The Integrated Export Plan was developed by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Zero Rejects with technical support from UNIDO to assist the fulfilment of the EU conditions necessary for lifting the ban on Nigeria’s dried beans and to assist the establishment of a system of trust for Nigeria’s agricultural commodities for export and local consumption.

UNIDO Supports 12th AFRIMETS General Assembly | NQI Project Nigeria 01/08/2018

Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has organised the twelfth Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS) General Assembly. The event took place from 16 July to 19 July, 2018, in Enugu State, with support from the National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria, NQIP, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO)has reaffirmed its continued partnership with the Federal Government to support industrialization in Nigeria through the development of necessary metrology systems and infrastructure.

UNIDO Representative to ECOWAS and Regional Director, Nigeria Regional Office Hub, Mr. Jean Bakole, stated this during the opening ceremony of the Intra- Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS), in Enugu.

UNIDO-Supported Training Centre Attains Status as West Africa’s First Approved Training Partner

The UNIDO-supported Training Centre of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has been awarded the status of Approved Training Partner (ATP). The certificate was jointly approved by the Chartered Quality Institute and International Register of Certified Auditors (CQI IRCA-UK).

In line with project requirements, UNIDO supported the establishment of ten training centres to build the capacity of stakeholder-institutions in the public and organized private sector with the view to foster sustainability of quality infrastructure services and improved consumer protection in Nigeria.

UNIDO Trains SON on International Inspection Body Competence Standard

Twenty-eight staff members from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) have received training on the practical implementation of ISO/IEC 17020:2012. The training held in Lagos from 20 to 22 June, 2018 and was organized within the context of the European Union funded National Quality Infrastructure Project in Nigeria, implemented by UNIDO.

ISO/IEC 17020 is the standard that specifies requirements for the competence of bodies performing inspection and for the impartiality and consistency of their inspection activities.
