After a hectic, stressful but hugely successful 44th Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA, yours truly is relieved to have weathered the storm.

What's on my mind?

That WAEC has a way of embarrassing miracle results chasers pro max.

Just negodu a Straight A candidate recording one big fat solo F9 in none other than the ubiquitous English Language. This result is worse than a Straight C scorecard.

Avoid Miracle Centres. Study to show thyself approved. Cheating does not pay! WAEC isn't fooled.

Mentorship is a noun that connotes guidance, life coaching, practical hands-on experience between an expert and a novice, and lifelong learning from those who know. It has little or nothing to do with the age of either party, mentor or mentee...

Yesterday I dressed as a Professor to attend a High School's Graduation Ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria's Capital. I was a Special Guest and spoke extempore to parents and faculty on the need to maintain the integrity of tests and measurement of the students for future predictability of learning outcomes.

At the end, I was privileged to present the awards to the Pioneer Alumni of the school who should now be headed to College, subject to their performance at the West African Examinations Council's Senior School Certificate Examination whose results are due in September. I commended their stellar scores at the recently released 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by JAMB.

My advice to them was: "The future of this academy will be determined by how well you do in your further studies and careers going forward. To be the Pioneer Alumni is a great privilege as well as a huge responsibility on your shoulders. You must not fail nor falter."

To their parents I advised to monitor them closely. "As teenagers entering the university as freshmen, the campus is waiting to distort their home training. Pay them unscheduled visits from time to time, to see how they're behaving after leaving home. Start asking about their academic seriousness at the entrance gate, because even security men and porters will give you a clue to their behaviour on campus.

It was a good outing for me.

Yesterday at the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Secretariat, Abuja (ICYMI, yours truly is the incumbent General Secretary of ANA) two first-time visitors arrived to see me.
The first was a father whose 11y/o son had written a book and who wanted our office to promote the young author. I glanced through the book, pointed out a few errors, and advised the young boy to attend our Summer School Creative Writing Workshop that comes up between the 19th and 20th of August, 2025.
The proud father went on to request my personal mentorship of the budding creative writer and our discussion on Ts & Cs are still in progress...

The next caller was a woman, an architect, and a mother who resides in the sprawling ANA Mamman Vatsa Writers' Village, Abuja. Her requests: (1) Could ANA establish a school so our kids can attend it? I don't like driving them to Maitama to attend schools. (2) I need mentorship on public speaking; I suffer stage fright. (3) Do you run a Summer School programme where kids can learn other skills besides Maths, English, etc?

I addressed the request of the lady by inviting her kids to the 2-day creative writing workshop in August. Her public speaking request we're discussing in the coming days, but to float an ANA School? That's farfetched for now.

PS. It's been long since I did a post update on this Page. But Meta AI keeps prompting me to grow the page by regular posting.

How do you like this update? I would like to read your opinion on how to improve it.

Thanks.
