“Sign Language is a visual language, not a spoken language. The rules that guide each of them are different — and understanding these differences is essential for true inclusion.”
This was strongly emphasized during the ASLIN National Convention, where Deaf leaders, Deaf interpreters, and Sign Language Interpreters gathered for deep, insightful discussions on language structure, interpretation standards, and the unique visual nature of sign communication.
The session reinforced the importance of recognizing sign language as a complete, independent language with its own grammar, culture, and identity.
