The fix for Claude Code's weak front-end

Claude Code writes solid code, but left on its own the front-end usually comes out looking, well, AI-generated. The move is to design it somewhere else first — in Google Stitch — and hand Claude the finished design to build from.

Design it in Stitch first

Go to stitch.withgoogle.com (free with a Google account — 350 generations a month). Describe your app in plain English: what it's for, the screens you need, the feel you want.

Then drop in reference images. Grab 2-3 screenshots from Dribbble or Pinterest of apps whose look you like, and Stitch matches that style. This is the step that actually matters — with no references it defaults to a generic look, and with them it builds toward something you chose on purpose. You'll get screens, layouts, colors, and type as one system.

*Describe the app. Show it the vibe. Let it generate the system.*

# # Hand it to Claude Code

This is the part that changes everything. Instead of Claude guessing what the UI should be, you give it the real design.

The fast way: in Stitch, export your design as a `DESIGN.md` file — plain markdown listing your exact colors, fonts, spacing, and components. Drop it in the root folder of your Claude Code project. Claude reads it on its own and builds every screen from those exact values instead of inventing its own.

The live way: set up the Stitch MCP server so Claude Code pulls your screens directly. Better for multi-screen apps where you want each screen mapped to a route — but it needs a Google Cloud sign-in, so it's more setup.

You're probably wondering which one you need. For a landing page or your first app, the `DESIGN.md` file is faster and does the same job. Save the MCP route for when you've got a real multi-screen app.
