Why do you need to identify your own unique potentials?

In the last episode, I talked about the power of potentials and I used the story of my growing up days with my granny who was so fond of planting seeds that would later become trees to show us how powerful potentials can be.

I also went further to show us that just like those tiny seeds with the potentials for trees in them, we are also blessed with unique potentials within us that when discovered and maximize will give us a life that is beyond our imagination.

In this very post, I want to further show you some reasons why it is very pertinent to identify your own unique potentials and focus on them.

Let’s go straight to that…

1. Your unique potentials will make you to stand out in life.
We are presently in an era where the world is in a mad rush for whatever is selling and making headlines.

As a result of frustration and joblessness, most people want to become musicians, comedians, beauticians, bloggers and the likes, simply because these fields appear to be lucrative. This has given birth to many pretenders who are lost in the crowd and as a result are struggling to make impact and profit.

I am an advocate of skill acquisition as a panacea for poverty (even though I consider that as a last resort) and I believe that any skill can be learned and mastered whether you are naturally wired for it or not.

But the truth is that, no matter how great you become in a skill that you just learnt, you will always fall behind the people that are naturally talented in that field and who also understands the business side of that talent.

Whenever Lionel Messi handles the ball, you don’t need anyone to tell you that he is in his domain. That guy clearly stands out among the lots on the field. You also have your own domain. Instead of being lost in the crowd of another man’s kingdom, why not identify your own kingdom and exercise your authority there?

2. The best version of yourself will only manifest through your unique potentials.
You are most creative in the area of your potentials. When you are in your natural domain you will rarely lack ideas for exploit. Hence, you genius ability will become very evident as you keep on implementing those creative ideas. The result is that you will keep becoming a better you.

Whenever Messi gets the ball, he knows what to do with it. Sometimes, even before the ball gets to him, he already have an idea of what to do to outwit his opponent at that particular time. And as he keeps acting on those ideas, the world is seeing him as a genius.

We are all born a genius and the easiest way to manifest that genius to our world is through our unique potentials.

3. Your potentials are your competitive advantage in life.
It is no longer news that we are in a very competitive world where everyone is seriously hustling to get their hands on the available (and limited) resources. Hence, to really thrive, you need to have a unique selling point (USP) that will readily draw the resources to you.

Your unique potential is your USP in the sense that you are naturally good in that area and when further refined with some trainings, you will become one of the best in that field. The result will be that you will effortlessly be a huge blessing in that field and that will also reflect in your reward and earning.

For some seconds, just think about the fees and earnings of people who are the best in their field. Don’t you want to get there? Your unique potentials are your fastest drivers to that height.

4. Your potentials are the tools for carrying out your life purpose:
We are all born with a unique purpose. This purpose is the main essence of our life and achieving it is what will give us the greatest fulfillment on earth. Hence, God designed and wired us with the necessary tools to be used in fulfilling our purpose. Our unique potentials are the primary tools for carrying out that assignment.

That is why you cannot quantify the joy and contentment that comes from doing what you naturally love and know how to do. It is in line with our natural make-up!

If you want to become the best version of yourself, if you don’t want to be lost out in the crowd of confused people who are only looking for their daily bread, if you really want to live a life of impact and fulfillment and still almost effortlessly creating wealth, then your unique potential is the real deal.

It all begins by discovering your unique potentials and committing to the process of nurturing them for maximum impact and profit.

Understanding Your Unique Potentials.

Some of the best times I had while growing up were the times I spent with my grand mom. In fact, I spent the first early years of life with my granny in the village.

And those were very memorable years because I was opportune to learn so many things from her. One of the things I learnt from her was planting.

My granny was so fond of planting fruits. This she does consistently at the farm and around the house environment. Most times as I carry the plate of seeds behind her, I will watch her with keen interest as she digs the earth, throw those tiny seeds into the earth and then covers them.

And afterward, I will give myself the assignment of always going to check on those seeds to know ‘how far.’

In most cases, if any of those seeds did not meet up to expectations, just know that it is my handiwork.

Because as I go for such inspections, sometimes I will be so inquisitive to know the growth process of those seeds that I will have to dig some out to see if there is any improvement, before putting them back to the earth. As a result, some of them never survived my romance with them.

But majority of those seeds, especially those that escaped my inspection, germinated and later became full grown trees with many fruits. And in each of those fruits are many other seeds that have the capacity to produce many other trees. It was such an amazing experience for my young mind then.

So in no long time, we were blessed with many fruit bearing trees, ranging from oranges to mangoes, guavas and the likes. I soon became the envy of my friends and peers, especially during the season of those fruits.

It was not long before I started practicing to plant my own fruits too. But do you know what? I can’t remember any of my seeds that grew into trees. You should know the reason by now.

While uprooting my granny’s seeds for inspection, I will be very careful not to be caught. So when it comes to the ones I planted myself, na who wan catch me? I always did whatever I like with them. After all, na me plant them.

But the result was that they never germinated due to too much disturbance. I used to be so frustrated with that outcome.

As I grew older and began to study and understand potentials, I came to the realization of what actually happened to those little seeds. As little as they were, they had the potentials to become trees. Those potentials are inbuilt in them and given under some conditions, they will definitely manifest into trees.

That is the same thing with every other creations of God. God created everything with potentials. They all have the potential to become much bigger than what they presently are, given the right conditions.

It is even more amazing when it comes to humans. That seemingly inconsequential reproductive seeds of humans called s***m and egg has the potential of becoming a full grown man or woman.

It amazes me whenever I imagine that human beings, no matter how huge or robust, are all product of some tiny fluid and egg. That is the power of potential!

Now, here is even the most interesting part. Inside those reproductive seeds are other potentials that God has blessed humans with. These potentials are supposed to be the very core of our existence.

In other words, if discovered and maximized, our life is supposed to be defined by these potentials. The good news is that these potentials are inherent in every human being and they are very key to our greatness and impact in life.

So what is potential?

According Myles Munroe of blessed memory, potential is an unexposed ability, reserved power, untapped strength, capped capabilities, unused success, dormant gifts, hidden talents and latent power.

In a nut shell, your potential is what you can do or accomplish that you have not yet done or accomplished. It is the sum of who you are that you have not yet manifest. And in most cases, there are different potentials that are unique to these seeds.

Hence, these potentials are unique to individuals brought forth by these seeds. This is to simply say that every human being is blessed with unique potentials.
