ACHIEVEMENT
We wish to salute a Legendary Public Health Consultant, Seasoned Academic, Recognized Parasitologist, University Lecturer Par Excellence, Healthcare Research Scholar, Polytechnic Rector of Repute, Accomplished Entomologist, Eminent University Administrator, and an amiable Fellow of the Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS) with several years of integrating theoretical knowledge and professional experience.
Professor Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga is a Fellow, Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS) and, a Member of the College of Fellows. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Degree with Honours, Master of Science (M.Sc) Degree and, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree with distinction. This erudite scholar has over fifty (50) peer-reviewed publications in the field of parasitology, entomology, epidemiological surveys - co-infection dynamics, and control strategies for parasites and, public health interventions in resource-limited settings etc. He was the Rector, Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku, Nigeria 2007-to-2011, Vice Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU) 2019-to-2024. Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Nigeria and, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the Delta State University (DELSU), Nigeria. He has been rewarded stupendously -
(1) Named ten (10) Most Outstanding Vice Chancellors in Nigeria
(2) Recognized as "Most Outstanding Library Development Administrator" by the Nigerian Library Association (NLA)
(3) Award of Excellence for Administration from Delta State Polytechnic, Nigeria
(4) Golden Award of Hardwork, Transparency, and Accountability by the Nigerian Print Journalism Development Organization
(5) NAPS Platinum Service Award by the National Association of Polytechnic Students etc. As the Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU) he secured full accreditation on the programmes presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the University's ranking improved significantly - third (3rd) best State-Owned in Nigeria by Times Higher Education (THE). Under his leadership, the University developed comprehensive policy document on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in university education, and introduced the Non Teaching Staff-to-Academic Staff Conversion programme, addressing under staffing issues. The University received the Pan African Prize for Excellence.
Professor Egwunyenga has done studies on Environmental Parasitology - pollutants in our environment, and how petrochemical pollutants interact with parasites. He believes Parasitology assists oil and gas operations in terms of hydrocarbon pollution monitoring, tracking toxic accumulation, evaluating ecosystem health, ecological recovery tracking, environmental monitoring and bioindication etc. Entomologist data distinguishes between natural background hydrocarbons in the soil and anthropogenic petroleum contamination. Public Health supports oil and gas production by assessing environmental risks, protecting worker safety, and minimizing host community health hazards etc.
