How "We'll teach you a lesson you'll never forget"
Fondly known as the school mantra or what's popularly called corporate slogan, this expression "We'll teach you a lesson you'll never forget" has its roots in best practices at The Copywriting School (Copycoach.Org). We are close to being paranoid about the quality of graduates that we produce and so beyond the laughs th
is mantra may elicit, it captures our corporate goal perfectly. First we screen our students and make sure they meet our four basic parameters for admission:
1. Passion for Copywriting
2. Some modicum of creative writing talent (and in some cases a writing interview)
3. Readiness to obey school rules
4. Willingness to invest in our school fees :-)
The school authorities ensure that students who miss more than three classes do not attend the final examination class. Really that's not peculiar to The Copywriting School. Point is if the student were an apprentice at a mechanic's workshop would he/she miss a single class??? All modules are important and all classes are urgent and important. Now comes the learning part:
Students are taught by friendly copy coaches (mostly on-the-job or former creative directors) in a scholarly environment with basic conveniences and quick access to proper meals, snacks and drinks (Usually these costs are built into the school fees and served during breaks). Each topic is treated as follows:
Revision of previous topic
Introduction (via PowerPoint projection or preferred method of the Copycoach)
Local & international case studies
Questions & Answers
Class assignment
Revision
Home work
Our coaching methods involve the use of both conventional and non conventional methods, audio-visual aids, ghost and real life briefs. Final scores are calculated according to cumulative results accrued through homework/class assignments (50%) and pass-out exam (30%) and group project (20%). Only students that score an overall percentage of 70% and above are issued the Copycoach School Certificate. All in all it's easy to score 70% and above if the student doesn't miss classes, genuinely has some creative talent, pays attention to detail (Copywriting is a serious craft!), submits assignments on time and puts in his/her best effort (intellectual rigour and inspiration). Truth is there are enough paper tigers out there, what the industry needs are hungry lions! So if you really want to learn a lesson you’ll carry with you, build on and one day say “Yeah, I’m a proud alumnus of Copycoach”, you’re welcome here and now!
