The Nigeria union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) is one of the major trade unions in Nigeria and it has membership in 774 local government areas/councils. The principal objectives of the Union are as follows:
Organization of workers who are qualified for membership
Regulation between workmen and employees and between workmen
Establishment and maintenance of just and proper hours of work, rate of pay and conditions of service
Establishment and maintenance of a high standard of workmanship and professional practice
Advancement of the education and training of members and employers of the Union
Promotion of the welfare of members
Encouragement of participation of members in decision making process at local, state and national levels. Promotion and fostering of legislature on local government matters and advancement of career prospects of members, employers in the local government and allied services
Encouragement of gender sensitivity at all levels of the union
Promotion of cooperate image of the union both national and internationally by ensuring the continued existence of a strong, virile and well articulated organization
