I am delighted to announce that I have been selected as one of the Delegates at COYEC'24 Lagos, Nigeria.

The Conference of Youth on Environment and Climate (COYEC) 2024 is a 2-day hybrid event aimed at bringing together climate actors and changemakers from different regions of Nigeria and Africa. COYEC’24 is anticipated to, among other things, inspire Africans to participate in environmental and climate actions in their respective communities, foster collaboration and partnerships among organizations, and contribute to the development of new ideas and solutions for environmental and climate issues specific to Africa

The ultimate goal of COYEC is to provide Africans with the necessary knowledge and capacity to take action towards solving climate and environmental challenges. The conference seeks to provide a common platform for young people to engage in discussions and take action towards addressing climate change.

Thank you fan, to those that joined us on the second edition of the UpwardEco webinar on "YOUTH ENGAGEMENT IN WASTE MANAGEMENT"

We had great notes to implement from Mr. Dahunsi Nehemiah and James, Nsinkeno Akaninyene.

Excerpts from James, Nsinkeno Akaninyene.

What is waste management?
It is the process of collecting, transporting, treating and disposing of waste materials in a safe, efficient and environmentally safe manner.

It was added that prior knowledge of institutes that act on waste management and their modus operandi is highly needed for effective collaborations in any given geographic area.

Secondly understanding waste management regulations of the federation and state is an asset to all youths that intend to do result oriented advocacy.

Excerpts from Mr. Dahunsi Nehemiah

Waste management could lead to ;
Pollution
Biodiversity loss
Climate change

He reminded us of the world day celebration theme vs planet and taught expositorily on why plastics should be kicked out of our planet.

From his perspective, this is how youth can engage in waste management.
🧠 Begin with volunteering
🧠 Create a nitch
🧠 Support the vision
🧠 Get social media branding very active
🧠 Build network and get a mentor
🧠 Plan and execute projects

Lastly skills come before innovation, acquire a skill, don't talk much, act now and stop complaining.

Deep in the rainforest, a unique celebration takes center stage – the 5th International Day of the Drill. This day shines a spotlight on the charismatic yet critically endangered drill monkeys, whose survival is intrinsically linked to the health of their forest home.

In 2000, a sanctuary was born – the Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, a safe haven for drills, gorillas, and chimpanzees in Nigeria. Today, Pandrillus , a dedicated NGO, stands as the vanguard, tirelessly working to protect these species from the brink of extinction.

But the battle is far from over. Mike Slade, a lifelong friend and trustee of Pandrillus, has issued a challenge that resonates through the forest canopy: he will match every donation made, dollar for dollar, up to a staggering $10,000. This generous offer is a rallying cry for us all to join the ranks of those safeguarding our planet's biodiversity.

WHY DO DRILLS MATTER?
As seed dispersers, they play a vital role in maintaining the forest's health and diversity. Their loss would be a silent alarm, signaling a broken link in the chain of life that sustains us all.

Your support, no matter how small, can make a world of difference. A donation contributes directly to research, habitat protection, and anti-poaching patrols that keep these creatures safe. It's an investment in a future where wildlife and humanity can coexist in harmony.

On this 5th International Day of the Drill, let's embrace the spirit of conservation. Let's rally behind Pandrillus and answer the call of the wild with open hearts and generous hands. Together, we can ensure that the drill monkeys continue to be the guardians of the forest for generations to come.

To contribute to this noble cause, please visit https://www.pandrillus.org/contact/donate
and be a part of the legacy that protects our natural world. 🌍🐡
