IS JAMB MOCK EXAM COMPULSORY FOR ALL CANDIDATES
Is Jamb mock exam compulsory for all candidates? This is one question that some candidates for the 2023 UTME have been asking. In this post, I will share with you all you need to know concerning that. To start with, the JAMB mock exam is not compulsory. It is completely optional. The JAMB mock exam is not a requirement for writing the main exam.
If you decide not to take the JAMB mock exam, it wonβt stop you from writing the main exam. You may have heard one or two persons say that those who refused to take the Jamb mock examination will not be allowed to participate in the main UTME. This is not true. The truth is that even if you donβt take the Jamb mock exam, you will be 100% allowed to write the Jamb UTME 2023. Another thing is that your score in the Jamb mock exam doesnβt add to your score in the main Jamb examination as some candidates believe.
However, despite the fact that the Jamb mock is not compulsory, it may help some candidates who may not be familiar with the use of computers or CBT as it will help their confidence as well as help them get familiar with JAMB CBT settings before the main exam.
To participate in the JAMB mock exam, interested candidates were advised to indicate their interest in the mock examination during their JAMB registration. So only candidates that indicated an interest in the mock examination are qualified to take the exam. But like is said earlier whether or not you write the mock exam, it does not affect the main exam because Jamb mock is not compulsory.

JAMB SHIFTS 2023 MOCK UTME
The joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has shifted the 2023 Mock-UTME earlier scheduled for Thursday, 16 March, 2023, to Thursday, 30 March, 2023.
JAMB disclosed that the shift in date is partly owing to the change in the date for the Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly Elections earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, 11th March, 2023 but now moved to 18th March, 2023.
JAMB spokesman Fabian Benjamin in a statement said candidates who registered early and indicated their willingness to take the Mock-UTME, would be notified as to when to print their Mock-UTME notification slip, which would contain their centres and other details.
The Mock-UTME is an optional examination introduced by the Board to provide opportunity for candidates to have hands-on experience with the system as well as afford the Board an opportunity to ascertain its readiness and that of its partners for the main UTME, which is scheduled to hold between 29th April, to 12th May,2023.
According to the statement βThe Board also wants to use this opportunity to announce that this yearβs UTME would witness some groundbreaking innovations aimed at addressing observed infractions and centre failures.
βFor instance, in the new regime, if there is a delay of up to one hour before the commencement of a particular session, that session stands cancelled and would be rescheduled along with the candidates.
βBy the same token, no examination can be started one hour after the scheduled commencement time. The session will be scheduled for any VACANT or AVAILABLE slot. The Board has made it mandatory that candidates must be notified of their new scheduled session or centre, as the case may be, before they leave their centre. In addition, no candidate would be allowed to spend less than one hour before submission of responses during the UTME. Similarly, the new regime would make it impossible for candidates to login after one hour of activation of examination.
βIf for any reason, an examination session is cancelled or cannot hold, candidates are not to panic as they will simply be scheduled for the next available session, which could be that same day. What such candidates are expected to do is to quietly leave the hall and move to the Holding Area to await further instruction.
βFurthermore, they are not to leave the examination centre until they have been notified of the day and time of their rescheduled examination.
βCandidates are to note that any rescheduled examination is strictly meant to accommodate only those whose examination session could not hold on account of one reason or another not for those who were marked LATE or ABSENT for their session.β

*π₯ IMPORTANT*
Over 1.1million applicants have registered for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said.
Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede stated this on Saturday while monitoring the ongoing registration exercise in some computer based test centres (CBT) in Abuja.
Oloyede visited CBT centres at Total Child International School, Dutse, JAMB Abuja zonal office, Life Camp, Global Distance Learning Institute and Sascon International College, Abuja respectively.
He also said the Board would not extend the deadline for applicants to register for the examination, warning CBT centres against extortion of applicants.
It would be recalled that the sale of the 2023 UTME commenced on Saturday, 14th January, 2023, and is set to close on Tuesday, 14th February, 2023
The JAMB Registrar said: βRegistration is going on well except some of these schools.
βUTME is not a school based examination, itβs individual candidates and you can see what that school, Stella Maris is doing, collecting N30,000 from candidates in the name of JAMB and then end up mixing up the telephone number of the candidates.
βSo once they keep the telephone number of candidates it is unlikely that the candidates, when we are contacting them if we want to make a change in their timetable, you send a text to them and it will not get to them. After they have graduated from the school and want to do change of course, they donβt have access to it.
And that is a way of extorting the parents. We will take adequate steps to make sure that we stop that. One of the reasons is that we will tell evey CBT centre to stop doing bulk purchase of pin and bulk registration. So, if s centre sells more than one pin to a source or collects money for more than one pin from a source then we will sanction such centre.β
He urged candidates to report cases of extortion, saying that there was a code for candidates to reach the board when they come across any case of extortion, while promising there will be a reward for such act.

π₯ASUU UPDATEπ₯
ASUU NEC is set to have an emergency meeting over their withheld salaries by the Federal Government. It is noteworthy that none of the agitations of ASUU has been met by the Government.
ASUU has been gathering opinions from its different branches and would react to them in no distant time.
The date for the meeting remains unfixed as of today. It is also important to note that there has been no pointer to a looming Strike action.
π° ASUU VS FG TOMORROW:
FG sued ASUU during the prolonged strike, praying the court to compel ASUU into returning to the classroom. The Court ruled in favour of FG and demanded ASUU returns to classes immediately. However, ASUU appealed the ruling but the Court of Appeal required that ASUU returns to classes as a gave condition precedent for hearing the appeal.
To be concise, the case will be heard again, Tomorrow 6th February 2023.
The possibility of ASUU going on strike hinges on this Court case.

JAMB UPDATE
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said prospective candidates can no longer register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) without providing their email addresses!!!
Further more,:
The board in a statement released on Monday, January 30, 2023, said the policy would take effect from 31st January 2023.
It affirmed that the review of its advisory on the ongoing UTME registration was to ensure best practices are followed in the process of capturing all relevant data pertaining to candidates.
The board added that the latest advisory, aside from aiding in eliciting relevant and up-to-date data of candidates, will also facilitate cheap and efficient transmission of urgent and vital communication to candidates.
The statement issued by the Head, Public Affairs and Protocol of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin partly reads; βCandidates are, therefore, advised to get their genuine email addresses before proceeding with UTME registration.
In addition, candidates are to ensure that their passwords are kept securely as the board does not retrieve lost email passwords or change email addresses once registered.β
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that JAMB commenced registration for the 2023 UTME on January 14, and will end on February 14, 2023.
The board is also scheduled to conduct the 2023 UTME on April 29 and end on May 12.
