ON BAT'S ORDERING FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STEVE ORONSAYE REPORT
It's commendable that BAT wants to implement the Oronsaye report. However, the implementation is as important as the report itself. Hence, he should be careful not to botch that, the same way subsidy removal and FX market unification were botched.
ON THE DEVOLUTION OF POWERS TO THE STATES
Let it be on record, that I , Dr. SIMON, do not support devolution of powers to the states. If there would be any devolution, it should be to the local authorities. The Nigerian governor is already too powerful, though seems too weak where it actually matters in issues like tackling insecurity. It is just by design. If you can emasculate the state judiciary; if you can castrate the legislature; if you render the local authorities weak; if you have limitless powers over traditional institutions; if you are an absolute ruler in party affairs; if you can stifle even the mildest dissent from the population all for nothing save to self-aggrandise oneself. All of these demonstrate unfettered powers. But, it is quite convenient to say you can not ensure absolute security of life and property despite allocating billions monthly for such. The Nigerian state governor rules supreme as maximum ruler that nothing whatsoever limits their powers. Hence, giving them more powers in the name of devolution is as dangerous as they come. It's the local authority; it is the judiciary; it is the legislature; it is the people; it is anything but the state government that requires powers to be devolved to.

FOR ECONOMISTS GENERALLY, MOST ESPECIALLY THE NIGERIAN ECONOMIST
I have just watched Dr. Biodun Adedipe on Arise Xchange saying those of us saying Nigeria under imports are getting it wrong. Anyone here that shares same perspective can come so that we can debate it. Because, I personally absolutely believe; unless anyone here can prove otherwise; we under import. Furthermore, I think the actual problem with Nigeria is inability to export and not too much imports per se.
Anyone that disgrees with me here, please indicate, so that we can have an intellectually stimulating discourse. While there is nothing that I love like debates, I'm not interested in winning but in being enlightened. I'd very happy if those that share the view that we import too much can win me over. So, it'd strictly be a debate guided by the facts and data only and from authoritative sources for the sake of our country's soul. Because, when we do not even understand the problem, how can we arrive at solutions?
